My brother-in-law calls it “katakanji,” and I think he thinks that it’s different from Japanese. Technically it is, but that’s because “katakanji” isn’t anything.
The other day he asked me what “magazine” was…
Him: “No that’s not the one I’m thinking of. [turns to his phone] Hey google, what’s magazine in Japanese?”
Google: “The word for magazine is マガジン”
Him: “Hey google, what’s magazine in katakanji?”
Ever watched Lost in translation? “Arigatou arigatou” That is so aweful and embrrassing : )
I hope google set him straight
It’s almost half a lifetime ago I watched the movie. I don’t recall the moment but I get the gist
While it may be embarrassing, I do try to look on the positive side of it. The other person is trying to act in our language/culture and is making an effort, so I would prefer to give them a pass for their courage to try something new
Not in this case. Enjoy the cringe from 1:14 on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i86FbeyKK1U
The problem is people like those really exist.
I see your point. That’s not an unintended mistake.
Also, is that guy Phoebe’s brother from Friends?
I will gladly take it.
Getting 65% on reviews and seeing another 100 coming in the next hour
Im confused what are katakanji supposed to be?
Also i noticed when I set my phone to speak my notifications in Japanese it is mostly borrow words. Not super useful for learning new vocab unfortunately:(
My brain to me when a burn item comes up
