Wait, can I check the spoilers or should I try the quiz first? Is that a thing?
Leebo wasn’t able to play due to technology issues, so maybe you could play this afternoon with him
Looks like if I’d participated it just woulda been a roulette wheel for whether it’s come up in my anki deck’s random draw yet
my results from those posted
用いる, 一石二鳥, 聴く, and 田舎
直ぐ
乍ら, 位, 不倶戴天, 一か八か, , and 母屋
刎ねる
美人局 (yes, it’s in my anki in kanji form… would have been excited to get to use that…)
天網恢恢疎にして漏らさず, 弘法筆を選ばず、 and 見縊る
final jeopardy:
All the are actively in my anki and I got them right here in the thread, all the have not come up yet and I would have got wrong. Guess the tool works!
天網恢恢疎にして漏らさず, 弘法筆を選ばず, and 縊る/見縊る are all in my anki deck but haven’t come up yet… the first I apparently read in a book (maybe 獄門島?), the second from a 龍が如く game apparently, and the third from apparently enough places that maybe I should have gotten it even without anki…
Heres the full thing if you wanna try it.
And yeah 美人局 is almost always kanji I think. The other three for the tiebreaker ive only seen once, but I threw that one in there even though ive seen it multiple times just because its a fun word lol.
The full version definitely has some that are in my anki that I would have really kicked myself for not getting exactly right (guess I gotta be a little stricter with my review answers to 自業自得…)
Definitely seems well put together and fun!
Yeah there are some tricky ones in the lower dans. 直ぐ was actually a level 1 one lol.
I did dans based on frequency that I had seen the word primarily rather than just how “advanced” the word was. So words in the first dan I had seen more times than I could count, and words in the 5th dan I’ve only seen a few times across my 60 something books read + VNs + internet stuff I’ve read. And I mean, some stuff you encounter a lot has tricky readings haha.
So, uh, according to my count, I got fifteen correct. Plus four for the 3x ones, and that makes 19 points.
I’m free most Saturdays.
EDIT: Oh, that was about doing this specific quiz… I already saw some of the questions on this one, so we can do something new.
Oh okay, then I won’t 遠慮 about trying it.
So then we have to hope someone else will prepare another quiz
百鬼夜行 for the 四字熟語 part please.
lmao I just did this one in the bot earlier.
Yeah I am not opposed to making another quiz, but if its just going to be for two then id like to participate too and potentially have it be a much harder one. The only problem is that then we would need someone with enough knowledge to prepare harder questions.
Oh gosh there was 魑魅魍魎 and I wasn’t there for it. Whyyyy.
Done, it wasn’t all that bad. Apparently, I have been reading 予てから and 母屋 wrong all those years. Absolute lucky guess on 不倶戴天, but that counts! I had no idea about a few, like 刎ねる 行脚 and 師走
Ive mentioned it before!
I got 21 out of the 30 questions on the main part. Though a few of them I blurted out answers without properly thinking, since we were doing it over voice, and they were wrong. If I was taking my time, might have got a few of those. Got the final jeopardy and none of the extra questions.
I’ve definitely seen it before, but it’s not like I had more than deja vu
Same with things like 楠, it usually would come with furigana anyway so…
none of the extra questions.
What were those by the way? The slides weren’t clear.
as in the readings?
てんもうかいかいそにしてもらさず
こうぼうふでをえらばず
つつもたせ
みくびる
Oh wow okay, got none of that.
(I just checked my score and I answered correctly 24/30, but I would probably have made more mistakes with stress, got the final one as well).
By the way, I don’t mind making questions either. The problem is that I am usually busy during the day, but since the three of us are in Japan, the evening might work for everyone?
What do you say we each do something along the lines of preparing 10 questions for eachother? Then we can all do it together.
The style of question is up to you and preferably keep it pretty difficult. Maybe things you’ve seen more than one time in your entire life, but at the same time aren’t going to be easy by any means.
Yes something like that could be nice.
Actually, your question about 位 gave me the idea to ask about uncommon readings for (relatively) common words. Like saying 女性 (not じょせい) にょしょう
Also, crazy ateji (inspired by 瓦斯 the other day)
When you say multiple times, does that mean multiple sources, or can I just use 木樵 since it showed up like three times in one of the books I read?
