What’s yukari? Is it a grammar resource?
My previous Japanese tutor
Oh gotcha ![]()
Oh no, you called me out lol. I don’t. I should, but my focus is almost entirely on reading as opposed to using the language myself.
Sorry I don’t have any advice to give ![]()
Hahah I mean neither do I, so I’m definitely not judging ![]()
@leneux Long time no see! How’ve you been? Great to see you’re still keeping up with Japanese
I’ve wanted to try out Notion for a while as a way of arranging grammar points but never quite worked out how to do it. Thanks for posting images!
I do too tbh. It’s proven very useful.
Hi everyone! I just signed up for the thread. I haven’t been able to really dig into studying consistently yet because of uni classes but finals will be over in a week and after that I hope to spend a lot more time on Japanese study. Based on my scores on previous mock tests, I feel reasonably confident that I can pass the N2 but I want to be really solid on it before moving onto N1. My biggest weakness is definitely grammar and production skills. I find it so difficult to keep all the grammatical constructions straight in my head sometimes.
Hi everyone! I’m fairly new on WK and just signed up for the thread. I have been trying on-and-off to learn Japanese for probably 15 years
but really trying hard to study seriously this time!
I’m aiming for N5 for the mock exam and depending on how that goes, might sign up for the N4 at the end of the year. It’s been great to read about all the different study methods and materials. My biggest weakness is definitely listening… and judging by the recent poll it looks like I’m not alone! I’ve started watching Midnight Diner on Netflix, which I think is helping a little… does anyone have any good shows/immersion tips for listening practice?
Okay, I’m hopping in xD Signed up for N2, have zero confidence, haha. I was debating on taking it in December, so this will make for good practice. ![]()
presses forehead against computer monitor and tries to absorb your organization skills through it
…I’ve had Notion open in a tab on my browser for like two months with the goal of setting something like this up for myself… strange how it’s not just magically happening on its own ![]()
Maybe I can setup some templates, not done that before though.
I’ve kinda fallen off the wagon this past week or so. I’ve focused more on reading again but not specifically practicing for JLPT. I noticed in class last week that my conjugation is getting a little rusty so have pencilled some time to go over that again next week.
Grammar is my worst area I think which I’m trying to improve by getting more active practice in. Instead of just reading, I’m trying to write daily posts on HelloTalk, etc.
Thanks for setting this up. Was planning to do N4 a year ago but then Covid happened. This will be really useful to make sure I’m focussing broadly on my Japanese learning.
Can I just check (sorry if I missed this higher up the thread) - if I go to this the JLPT website I CAN look at the questions listed as JLPT Official Practice Workbook Vol.2 (published 2018), but I need to AVOID looking at JLPT Official Practice Workbook (pubished 2012). i.e. I can look at the orange one but not the blue one!

And just to check, I am ok to look at the sample questions on this part of the JLPT website?
Thanks again!
Sorry, I don’t know how I missed this notification! I’ve had one tutor session but never got around to booking another one. I honestly should, because otherwise my speaking will never improve ![]()
Yes that’s exactly it!
As for you next question, the sample questions are also fine to look at! ![]()
No worries!! I see, but that means you did have one right? How was that? ![]()
It was alright! The teacher was nice, seemed like a primary or middle school teacher to me. I think I’ll try some other teachers though, just because some of the time I didn’t really know what she wanted me to do. As in, we were following a script where a person gives another a pen (N5 stuff I know, lol), and I’m like am I supposed to say thank you?? because she hadn’t shown any sign of ‘giving it to me’ although that’s how the script went.
I also discovered my speaking is worse than I thought it was
Although I can write more complex sentences or make them up in my head (slowly), I can’t string it together quickly enough.
It was a good experience though : )
How is the listening part done in real JLPT tests? Do you get replays? How many?
They only play the recording once, all in one go, without stopping or repeating. (If you listen to the original recordings, there is even a short break with some elevator music in the middle
). This way the listening section is identical for everybody.
天気がいいから散歩しましょう!
I have to say though, that I’ve been to 2 JLPT so far, and one was held in a small room, and in the room next to us they were taking the same level - except their recording was started 5 seconds before ours and… it was quite confusing. The ones in the other room could use it tbh if they forgot to concentrate for a second.
The other one was in Japan in a huge hall with hundreds of people, and it echoed badly.
I’m still waiting for the perfect JLPT listening experience ^^’
