The forums have been around for years now and I often search through them, as many do. But it’s very confusing not knowing what level someone was when they made a certain comment and what level they are now. At the top of their post it should show something like “Username (15) 60” to show they were at level 15 at the time of the post and are now at level 60. If they’ve reset and restarted WaniKani like some do, then Wanikani should show the 2nd run e.g. “Username (03v1) 27v2”. Why would all this be useful? Not for boasting or hierarchy but to make people’s posts more useful in retrospect. Here are some examples.
- Someone posts advice about how to complete WaniKani efficiently when they are at level 15. Now they are level 60, two years later. If I could see that progression on their post, I can take their advice seriously.
- Someone shares their study schedule while on level 5. It seems unrealistic. Two years later I can see their level is level 6. So I can get an idea that maybe it was actually unrealistic.
- Someone shares a book title that they enjoyed. The post automatically shows they were at L15 when they read the book. Even if they’re level 49 now it doesn’t matter; I get the important clue that they read it at L15, so perhaps I can add that book to my “to read” list.
- I’m reading someone’s study blog for inspiration about how to keep going and to learn from their wisdom. I see a post that’s automatically marked L53 and can see that now, a few months later, they are at L59. I will know that their approach might not be the same as me e.g. if I’m at L12.
I think it’d be very useful data to automatically put at the top of each post, which is why I manually add my current level to all my posts. For posterity!
Something to consider.
Edit: I’m currently at level 28 lol ![]()
