[Userscript] WaniKani Similar Kanji

I’m happy the WK stuff decided to implement this, and I also don’t wanna take away @anon20839864 's job, so won’t update this any further, ごめん

Oh, I see. *sad* (But yours were so handy right at the top. I like your placement better… Also the other comments I said a month ago remain true too.)
I’ll have to find Kristen’s thread…but wait! That would have been archived (and I thought this would’ve been too) so I shouldn’t be able to reply. I’m getting quite confused.

I’ve been using this script for ages and think it’s really fantastic. I’ve recently been going through my leech items and this script has been absolutely invaluable.

I wonder if it would be possible to incorporate it into lessons? I’d love to be able to see which kanji are similar right from the off - might help prevent the mix-ups occurring in the first place.

(By the way, anyone who hasn’t installed this because WK now has this feature: this version is infinitely superior to WK’s own version, which I’ve found to be almost completely useless.)

I’ll check @andreask 's modifications, and update the script if they work.

Loyalty and afflicted (忠 and 患)

Middle heart and middle middle heart (or skewer heart)

I completely agree.

錦(nishiki-brocade) and 綿 (men), cotton are similar.

Just adding to the list to keep a record. I’ll drop a note to wk support. It’s a pity that we have overlapping functions that are not quite at the same level.

I am getting :

“Something unexpected happened while trying to load similar kanji. ごめんなさい。”

Is it just me?

I get the same message and have removed the script. (See tomboy’s response a few response above above. He might have disabled it.)

I also contacted Tofugu and heard back that no one is monitoring this thread - if you have similar kanji that is not represented in the WK similar kanji list, drop a note to them directly.

I prefer the placement of the Visually Similar Kanji section in tomboy’s script to WaniKani’s placement since it makes it quite hard to actually compare a Kanji to its similar Kanji. This simple script moves the Visually Similar Kanji section up to where tomboy’s script originally placed it. HTH.

Does this script still work ? If not is there a solution ?

Script does not work anymore, because now WK provides its own similar kanji section. You can use the code in above post to move the similar kanji section to the top. The downside is that you won’t see similar kanji on lesson or review pages as it only works on Kanji information page

That exactly what I want. I really want to see similar kanji when I’m doing reviews. Is there a way for me to do that ?

I don’t think there is any other userscript which does this currently. Maybe create a new request here: What do you want now? (Request extensions here)

Yep, me too.

The similar Kanji section from WaniKani is not perfect yet as there’s still a lot of Kanji missing.

The script that solve me this problem was this one:

If this bothers you, please drop a line here!

For months now :frowning:
I prefer this script over Wanikani’s so much.

Have you looked at this one: [Userscript] Niai 似合い Visually Similar Kanji v1.0.1

Hey, @tomboy, Is this website gone?
http://wk-similarkanji.rhcloud.com/kanji

I still use your script after Kristen and the WK team added some similar kanji (to the bottom) of the item pages, because a) it’s more exhaustive and b) it was at the top.

If the website is down, could I give you my email for you to email me the list? I’d be happy to pop it on a dropbox or something and have the script call it from my own resources.

Many thanks!

I just mixed up 題 願, which WK does not have. I think this has been a leech pair for me for quite some time now.

You may have discovered this by now, but at least for the next person:
