[Userscript] Bringing back the old emojis

I’m gonna keep it short and simple: As discourse won’t bring back the old emoji set and many people dislike the new emojis, I’ve made a small script that fetches the emojis from emojipedia. This still uses the Apple emoji set which was previously used here on WaniKani and other discourse forums

Hope it works for anyone who’s interested. Remember to refresh your page after installing with Tampermonkey

Have a look at this: :sunglasses: (if the script is running correctly, there will be an emoji with sunglasses; otherwise you will only see sunglasses with no emoji)

Current issues I am aware of and that I am still going to fix:

  • Some emojis don’t display properly: I noticed that sometimes emojipedia uses the short names and other times the long names of the emojis. Gonna have to adjust the code to check which one is the correct one for a given emoji Most emojis work now
  • Emojis don’t work within POLLs (as a member of POLLfam, this issue has high priority…!)

Oh, so it’s not just me with these new flat, textureless emoji. Also they keep changing the design of the emoji button…

Hardly see anything with dark theme and bedtime brightness.

Installed and now I can see!

Published version 0.2 which fixes a lot of the previously unsupported emojis

Out of the ones that still don’t work, most are some of the newer special emojis with multiple people who can have different skin colors

For some emojis, the replacement doesn’t seem to work and it still shows the discourse emojis. Don’t really know why yet
