Guilty… but my point wasn’t even about whether character should be considered a synonym or not, it was about the inconsistency between uppercase and lowercase.
And what kind of psycho rhymes “char” with “chair”? It obviously rhymes with “far”…
(In all seriousness, though, I have never heard of any such argument. This actually surprised me)
Here’s one thread with a few different opinions, but it’s fairly civil. I guess it’s not really on the scale of the truly important moral questions of the day, like tab width.
Based on the first few search results I see, I suspect if you actually polled people, the rhymes-with-far pronunciation would indeed turn out to be the most popular.
