Typo in a context sentence for 湿る

湿る

It says:
昨日の夜、寝汗をたくさんかいちゃったから、ベットが何だか湿ってるのよね。
I sweat a lot when I was sleeping last night and my bed is a little damp.

But it should be ベッド right?

Huh, I thought it was just a typo too: ベット (賭け) vs. ベッド (寝台), but after seeing the entry in Jisho for “bed” as ベット, a quick Google search seems to actually show some confusion – mostly on the pronunciation. From here:

日本語の特徴として、促音の後は清音(濁点のない音)となることが多くなっているため、つい「ベット」と発音してしまうのだとか。

I know it was probably just a typo in the context sentence, but your question let me learn something new today - Thanks!

BTW: It seems there are other irregular spellings like for “bag” (カバン): バッグ vs. バック, or even “bulldog”(犬): ブルドッグ vs. ブルドック. Anyway, at least in American English, I don’t actually pronounce the “d” in “bed” very clearly either (and sounds very similar to “bet”).
