Trunklayer's Study Log

I see, thank you for the warning
So far, the scariest thing I’ve seen there – is the font.

This font itself seems to have been made in Abyss

It’s where I see the Jitai training comes in, my brain adapted quickly. Learning fonts is really nice so it’s scary practice after all :teapot:

Ok, it is starting to get scary

Apparently the room the main character lives used to be the room for punishments. However, because she keeps doing mischief and getting punishment for that, they decided to relocate her there. The room has chair that looks like a torture device…

I’m starting to feel uneasy about this game…

Eww torture :fearful:

Okay, so, I’m kinda used to this kind of stuff and that is not among the things I would consider scary, so when I said the scary hides at first, I didn’t even factor that kind of thing into my thoughts.

Probably you will want to stop playing that game. Please stop now before it traumatises you.

Oh! If this bothers you – you shouldn’t continue playing. That part is consistent throughout the series too, it’s part of the world-building that things are brutal. I thought you meant the… questionable… parts about the game. But it’s definitely that sort of game where difficult things happen. Not right away, but it’s not a wholesome kind of game/manga/anime AT ALL.

Thank you both for the warning! I confess, this makes me really doubt whether I should continue playing that game…
Then again, nowadays even ordinary evening news can be much scarier than any game can ever be…
May the Great Cat of Peace and Harmony purrotect us all from any harm, both physical and mental! love2

That sounds a bit like saying: “should I break my own finger? I mean, I have a dangerous job where I could break my leg at any point and that’s much worse, so a finger is nothing…”

(Please don’t hurt yourself)

You have a very good point… But so far, the game only implies that it has scary side, but I haven’t seen it yet… I should probably stop before it happens, but… So far, the game seems really cool and has some attracting effect on me… We’ll see how things turn up later

That’s how they get you… :japanese_goblin:

As an American mom, there is a worry that possibly getting used to/normalizing horror might dull a person’s compassion or encourage psychopathic/antisocial traits.
(We moms get blamed for every bad thing in our kids)

But OMG I watch a lot of horror/gore in my media! Nowadays, I hit fast-forward and roll eyes saying “gratuitous gore,” but I am old… Apparently, I used to watch with fight or flight instincts aroused and think “If I was faced with those circumstances, how would I escape?”

Now I try to make an active decision whether or not I want to support artist who create certain kinds of art…

This is indeed a serious issue, but again it all depends on the work of art in question – not only what is done, but how it is done and for what purpose
If the game starts being too scary – I will stop playing it. For example, I’ve stopped playing Marco and the Intergalactic Dragon, even though it’s great for Japanese studying, simply because it’s too fanservice-y for my taste

Deponia game series was an interesting case. The main character is supposed to be the good guy, but some things he does are… Well, those games are certainly a border case. So far, I haven’t seen anything like that in “Made in Abyss”

  • Played some more “Made in Abyss”. So far, nothing to scare me away, although I am annoyed that, while the music does play regardless of whether the game is in focus, the sound does not. So, I do have to use Alt+Tab, which I hoped I wouldn’t… Oh well… :video_game:

They say that petting a cat can relieve the stress of the person who does the petting. I hope that it also helps the kitty remain calm!
