Tips on memorizing radicals for those who already read kanji?

Hi there! New to wanikani, but not new to Japanese.

I am finding a lot more difficulties in memorizing the mneumonics than anything else. Because I already read some kanji, I can read/know their meanings without the help of the radicals. I end up failing more at identifying the radicals than the kanji themselves. For example, I mix up Cliff and Canopy all the time, or Roof and Hat, etc.

Curious if there were others that ran into this and if there’s any tricks to overcoming it. Thank you and very excited to be a member of this community!

IMO the radicals only make sense in order to help memorize the kanji. If you don’t need them, use a script to pass them even if you don’t recall the specific mnemonic.

What script are you referring to? Is it common for people to use scripts to bypass things here?
