Tips for Running a WaniKani Book Club

Looks like an interesting story!

Book clubs are great fun and it’s also a lot of fun running one.

On Natively this book is level 27, and also based on the preview, it’s a good fit for the Intermediate Manga Club (IMC).

So your first decision is whether to nominate it for the IMC or create an informal club.

  • The IMC is a formally organised club for manga at this level and what you do is nominate the book (see thread for instructions), and then at the next poll, people who want to read vote for the next pick. If yours wins you run it! Then you can use the threads from pervious picks as templates and the tips in this thread to run the club. Plenty of people can answer questions
  • Running an informal club (see that category here Master List of Book Clubs) means you just go ahead and make a post and then try to attract interest, and then choose a start date together. The advantage is you can start anytime without a vote, but you probably won’t get as many people to join. That said numbers aren’t everything and a few committed people is also very fun. If you choose this route let me know and I can give you more tips.

I really recommend trying to get it into the IMC, as if it wins the vote you’ll have a lot more company reading it. Normally at least a dozen or so people join, and you will usually get interest in an offshoot. If after a few rounds it doesn’t win, then you can still start your own informal club.

In the IMC nomination post, you list things like this under a spoiler tag. Trigger warning: animal cruelty. And you can do the same with your club home thread.
