The Intermediate Manga Club (IMC) // Reading now: 幸せのマチ

Nah, I’m also super behind. Particularly for Natsume and JoJo

Is this an Original Sin thing? Mankind were all pure and always punctual with book clubs until Eve created the first book club?

I think there are natural breaks by busy people not voting for their favorite picks, and other picks being picked instead. I think it would be unfair to have long breaks, what about the demographic that hasn’t joined an IMC before and is looking forward to try their first one?

Given how fast the club comparatively reads to other clubs, I don’t think new members are waiting all that long though

Naaah, I just came back from a travel related 5 week hiatus last week and my backlog feels so huge that the urge to just drop learning Japanese entirely and go back to bed for the rest of the year is absolutely overwhelming.

Yeah, I feel you. I’ve almost finished getting caught up on my new clubs as well, here.

My advice: take it one book at a time. Try to ignore the faint cackle of Xeno standing somewhere just out of sight as each club adds an extra chapter for every week it takes you to get caught up. Don’t do what I did, and propose that all four of the spin-off clubs you run start their next volume in the same week.

The top FOUR suggested posts for me are like “oh hey, you’re behind”

So, you joining 骨ドラゴン or not?

Anonymous Poll (for IMC’ers)

Do you join offshoot clubs?
  • Often :sparkles:
  • Only sometimes
  • Not yet :stopwatch:

Wait, is this poll only for this club? I voted on a general basis - if I join a club and there’s an offshoot, I tend to join.

Ah, I also voted as in line with my general bookclub behavior and not necessarily just the imc.

For me, it also depends on how much of or how accessible the rest of the series is

Nice :+1:

I meant participant demographics here (or passerby) but any club is OK. ABBC, BBC, IMC may be easier to join offshoot, being manga.

Novels or non-fictions may have heavy load just to add up one volume… For me it’s doable, but still means less votes for a while. Selected books may need to be joined afterwards (with less fun and participation).

Vote for the next book - now!

The poll will close automatically 2025-12-19T18:00:00Z.
The IMC is currently reading ハクメイとミコチ, last week of reading is January 3rd, so the book we vote for now will start on January 17th.

Can I vote?

If you are interested in joining the next book club we run, you can - and should - vote!

Difficulty Scores

Difficulty scores come from Natively (if available). Natively is a large community of language learners where users rate the difficult of books they’ve read against others they’ve read and uses an ELO system to determine the relative difficulty. Because of the rating system the ratings without ?? should be reasonably accurate, but the levels with ?? are just an initial guess that must be taken with a pinch of salt.

How does the vote work?

The poll will close automatically.

You can vote for up to 5 options.

You can change your vote at any time by clicking ‘Show vote’ at the bottom.

The book with the most votes will be our next pick.

If there is a tie for the winner, we will pick the book that has the oldest nomination date.

Have a look at the nominations:

  • The nomination post for each manga is linked in the poll (the number link [1.]) and is also in the first post of this thread
  • The Natively link is also in the poll, the “LXX” link
  • There is also a Natively list of the current nominations

Time to vote for the 12th pick of the IMC

The end of civilization is drawing ever closer, so it’s time to learn some survival skills for the post-apocalypse… from Dr Stone. :slightly_smiling_face:

Last two days to vote!
I went back and checked, last time we had 28 people voting.
Not sure if the 9 people skipping this time would have liked to vote for :cross_mark: :grimacing:
If not, you still have time to vote! Make it count!

I just haven’t been keeping up with book clubs lately, so I don’t want to sway the vote when I don’t think I’ll join.

I think I might have miscalculated something somewhere, maybe with the winter time  as I was expecting the poll to close in around 15 minutes but it looks like it is already closed.

So that just means that we have a winner

It’s a tie between 幸せのマチ and あかね噺. The tie-breaker rule is that the oldest nomination is the winner, so…

Congratulations to 幸せのマチ!

@Greya, as it was your nomination, would you be willing to lead the club?

We also say goodbye to two nominations, 魔入りました!入間くん and きみのせかいに恋はない, as they have gathered less than 15% of the votes three times in a row.

But if you so wish, don’t let that stop you from either:

  • reading them on your own
  • creating your own book club for them
  • renominating them and seeing them win (true story, just happened in the ABBC with Gal and Dino)

Oh no, I thought I had this thread on watching! I just barely missed the vote

Although maybe a blessing in disguise bc I’m behind in a ton of clubs right now…

Wow, it actually won!!! (•̪ o •̪) I didn’t expect that!

I’ve never run a book club before, but I’m willing to give it a go! From what I understand, leading the club basically just consists of posting threads for the manga and its individual chapters, right? So I guess I’ll just look at some of the IMC book club threads and copy them then.

When would I have to set up the main thread by? Would by Monday work? I’ll probably be able to finish it over the weekend.
