The Intermediate Manga Club (IMC) // Reading now: 幸せのマチ

If a third spot is needed, feel free to remove きみのせかいに恋はない. I’ve had it in a half-read state for months because it wasn’t that interesting, and I do still have two other nominations beyond that one.

Speed Run Club friends:

Would anyone be interested in reading the 3 volumes of 自転車屋さんの高橋くん | L25 with me by 2025-10-13T14:59:00Z?

JP Summary

EN Summary

From unwanted advances from her boss to work dumped onto her by coworkers, thirty-year-old Tomoko Hanno, or Panko for short, struggles to stand up for herself. But when her rusty bike breaks down, she meets Ryouhei Takahashi from the neighborhood bike repair shop. Although he can be a bit overbearing, Panko finds herself relying on his considerate nature and her world begins to shift…

I just watched the drama this month and really enjoyed it. The whole series is only 9 total volumes (so far), so not a big commitment if you end up enjoying the series. The next two books are also on sale until the free books expire, if you decide to read on.

I just remembered about this type of a club!
I’m a bit busy atm, but I can give the first volume a try :eyes:

Can’t say I will commit to the 3 (or 9) volumes but I’m up for starting with the first one too!

That sounds like enough people to at least throw together a thread. .. although I’m not even sure what template to follow :joy: hmmm

Yeah that seems tricky…
One thread per chapter seems a bit overkill but might become a mess with only one thread and people commenting at different times. Definitely a pity that Discourse doesn’t have a better thread system.
But I would say just one thread per volume and people put [details] tag to announce which chapter they are discussing?

I think 1 volume per thread is a good idea, in case someone doesn’t go to vol.2-3.

Just also remind people to close [details] tags, in case they are using WYSIWYG editor.

I’ll make up a thread tomorrow. I’m gonna probably not do a home thread, but I’ll make a new thread for each volume beyond the first?

Yes I think that’s fine! In case the Speed Run Club becomes a thing, then it can have its own thread, so we can find back to the other threads and discuss what to read next. But for now I think it’s fine to discuss here.

Thread is up. I made it pretty bare bones bc, lazy. But lmk if I need anything else for a WK club (this is my first thread over here).

You can list your club here, maybe put it in the miscellaneous scheduled category?

This stickied post is also helpful, although it’s geared more towards the formal clubs, there are some helpful tips like getting your club listed on the Natively page

The miscellaneous section sounds good for now. If this becomes a regular thing, maybe we can add a new section then.

Ohhh that explains the bizarrely coincidental timing :joy:

残念 I’ve already bought vol 1-4, but anyway I’m in!

Vote for the next book - now!

The poll will close automatically 2025-10-17T17:00:00Z.
The IMC is currently reading アンリの靴, last week of reading is November 1st, so the book we vote for now will start on November 15th.

Can I vote?

If you are interested in joining the next book club we run, you can - and should - vote!

Difficulty Scores

Difficulty scores come from Natively (if available). Natively is a large community of language learners where users rate the difficult of books they’ve read against others they’ve read and uses an ELO system to determine the relative difficulty. Because of the rating system the ratings without ?? should be reasonably accurate, but the levels with ?? are just an initial guess that must be taken with a pinch of salt.

How does the vote work?

The poll will close automatically.

You can vote for up to 5 options.

You can change your vote at any time by clicking ‘Show vote’ at the bottom.

The book with the most votes will be our next pick.

If there is a tie for the winner, we will pick the book that has the oldest nomination date.

Have a look at the nominations:

  • The nomination post for each manga is linked in the poll (the number link [1.]) and is also in the first post of this thread
  • The Natively link is also in the poll, the “LXX” link
  • There is also a Natively list of the current nominations

Time to vote for the 11th pick of the IMC

The current season of the Doctor Stone anime ended the other week. What a perfect time to read the manga instead. :slightly_smiling_face:

As Dr. Stone is my favorite anime, I would be so up for the bookclub. Already read the first few books, but haven’t caught up with the Anime yet. I’m already hoping on a Spin-off club ^^

Very excited to see ハクメイとミコチ in the lead at long last.

Meanwhile I’m reading volume 13 of ごちうさ and it has no votes here. :downcast_face_with_sweat:

If it wins, I’m going to have to catch up on a bunch of book clubs to make room in my schedule for more reading. (No way I’m catching on Witch Hat or Frieren, though…)

I’m watching it leading the poll with dread. I can’t keep up with my current book clubs and expect to be busy till December, buuut ハクメイとミコチ has such high ratings on mangaupdates :eyes:
