Me, too… But… Geez…
You’re like akaSheila!

I’m still on WK60
but doing it Vanilla

Does anyone know yet if FFVIII Remastered on PS4/5 allows you to select the language from within the game or if it requires changing the system language?

I think we discussed this earlier in the thread, and it requires changing the system language. No promises. The PC version has a launcher (shudder) which is usually a good sign that they didn’t want to bother putting the settings in the actual game.

Dang, okay. I remembered discussing it with FF7, but couldn’t remember if it was confirmed for FF8. That’s so lazy and annoying.

I just checked my switch version of remastered, and there’s no in-game way to change languages; I had to change my system language to get it to show Japanese.

Thank you for checking

I do really want to replay FF8, so I’ll probably just deal with the system language thing when the time comes. I’m far more interested in replaying FF8 than FF7 to be honest.

Since I started my filthy preplay, I thought I’d also inaugurate the home thread for FF5:

By the way I put way too much thought into the emoji choice for each game, so for future reference (and so that I don’t forget for future games), here’s what I came up with:

ć‚²ćƒ¼ćƒ  絵文字 ę„ē¾©
FF1 :gem_stone: Crystal
FF2 :ring: Scott’s Ring
FF3 :onion: Onion Knight job
FF4 :whale: spoiler
FF5 :prayer_beads: Lena’s pendant
FF6 :factory: A factory for the industrial setting
FF7 :comet: The meteor is on the cover
FF8 :waning_gibbous_moon: The moon
FF9 :deciduous_tree: Iifa tree
FF10 :volleyball: BLITZBALL

You may regret not having the :whale: for FFX.

We do have :volleyball: though.

FFX is obviously going to be a volleyball. How nice for this Blitzball videogame to come with such a cool story mode around it!

I’d consider:leafless_tree: possibly for five and the castle for nine.

This emoji doesn’t stand out at all against a dark background…

I felt that the Iifa tree is maybe more iconic and memorable in FF9 than just a castle (I would have gone for :gem_stone: if I hadn’t already used it for FF1).

Well, FF9 is the last really traditional FF, plus one of the first things I thought of is…summoning a massive, sentient castle in a cutscene. You don’t see that every day.

In that same vein, I might cheekily use a pink house for FF7.

PCSX2 set up, I’m ready for FF10:

ęˆ¦ć† in kanji, fancy.

One of those weird Baader-Meinhof phenomenons that always pop up in language learning: I saw your post, wondered why you used ę„ē¾© instead of ę„å‘³, and now a few hours later I got this exact card in my Bunpro lessons.

(I still don’t know how it’s different from ę„å‘³ though)

I’m absolutely not sure if I got the nuance right but I wanted to say ā€œsignificanceā€ more than ā€œmeaningā€, as is I wasn’t really concerned by the literal meaning of the emoji but rather the rationale for using it in this context. It feels a bit more subjective or context-dependent than ę„å‘³.

If you look at example sentences with ę„ē¾© it’s often used to mean ā€œsignificantā€ or ā€œsignificanceā€, so I thought it would be apt here.

Not  ?
