It does indeed have a lot of text, though itâs presented as multiscreen dialogue rather than Wowâs single big page.
It has has many very long cutscenes where people talk for like 30 minutes straight, but most of them are push to continue.
Steamâs having an FF franchise sale. Most of the time squeenix doesnât like going below 50% off, but Iâm seeing some record lows here down to even 70% off.
Final Fantasy 8 was tweaked a bunch for the American release and contains additional dialogue, mainly tutorial stuff to explain the âjunctionâ system.
I was curious to know how they handled that in the various remasters because I assumed it would be the same game with just different scripts, so surely either theyâd have to backport the tutorial stuff in the Japanese version, or theyâll cut it out for everybody.
But no, they actually have the exact same script as the original versions: if you select âJapaneseâ from the launcher you donât get the tutorial sequences, but in English you do.
Anyway, all that to post that screenshot:
In Japanese the game doesnât have this exchange, so you can actually play the entire game without GF.
My daughter saw that screenshot and thought it meant girlfriend and pointed like a lunatic.

I wish they made Pixel Remasters for all the games in the series. Playing FF8 in SNES style graphics would be awesome.
I found this youtube channel a few months ago and thought some of you might be interested. He makes what he calls âretrospectivesâ of video games (mostly FF so far) where he discusses the development history of each game, as well as his own experience playing the original version and some of the remade versions. Just note that he discusses major spoilers during each video, so Iâd suggest only watching the videos for games youâve already played or donât care about.
I watched his videos about FFX and FFX-2 since I played the former so much that I know the whole story by heart anyway (and donât plan to replay the latter) and the KH and KH2 ones, all of which were pretty interesting. Now Iâm watching the ones for the first three FF games since I skipped them and donât plan to play them. Going forward Iâll watch each retrospective video after I finish the game with the club.
Where are X and X-2?
I actually donât remember where I put my PS2 games. Iâll have to investigate.
(Missed my Dirge of Cerberus because it was filed under D and not F where itâs supposed to be, lol.)
Iâll take any excuse to enjoy my collection. Rows in Steam just donât hit the same (even when itâs convenient). Itâs like vinyls vs Spotify.
