I suppose it can be taken in that way. I only really appreciated Bunpro in my second (well, third really) time around. I mostly focused on WK but my downfall was forgetting vacation mode, and getting overwhelmed with lessons. We all have different ways of learning the materials we have on hand. I could have gone for Anki and its free decks but it’s without some sort of gamification and structure so I’d rather do WK.
There are other examples that I clearly got frustrated with, so I remember them now with clarity lol
You’ll come around the 台 vocab, and it will be in an unexpected context in the Bunpro review. It uses “platform” in the hints, and I never really would have guessed that WK’s meaning for it as “machine” also has other meanings.
Another one is 本 which we know to be “book” in WK. But in Bunpro, it takes the meaning of “bundled pages together”, or “counter for cylindrical objects” like how? Haha!
Right, I’ve seen 台 as “platform” already and 円 for “circle” (as opposed to 丸). I personally liked 一気 for “one gulp” in a “i drank this in one gulp” sentence. Maybe this is just my present mood, but I like the strangeness of it. I’m not going to berate myself for not understanding
Yeah. I just try to remember that the 円 has something to do with coins or yen. In some of the kanjis, I try to remember either the Phonetic-Semantic readings so it’s easy to remember. If not possible, I link a previous kanji reading to a new one. Like in 広 which is “spread”, I relate it to the reading for 拾 which is pick up and both of them are ひろ. So I act it out, spreading my fingers before picking up something.
It’s interesting how different we all are in our complexities of thought. For instance, the method you mention doesn’t resonate with me. Actually I think I’d have a harder time trying to remember it that way lol
For fun I’m imagining how your method would be applied to all the こう voicings. You’d be acting out a whole novel lol
Perhaps that’s just me lol I’m a visual learner I suppose. But I don’t do that for all kanji/vocab. Only for the ones where the radicals don’t make sense with the meaning. It’d be very weird to act out stuff when I do my reviews, especially if I’m doing it outside lol
Well for the こう readings, I just imagine こういちさん doing funny things like being a tall (高), high school student (高校生) who likes (好) to shoot at people with water gun in public (交) from over there (向こう). (Beware of the 交番 (police box) behind (後) you!)
I have a huge pile of unlearned vocabulary - which will be increased again by the upcoming Guru’d Lv11 Kanjis so I think I’ll take a bit of time with this level - maybe delay the level up by a few days just so I can chip away at this pile. I have been religious about the 25 lessons a day so I suppose it was just that the previous level had an ungodly amount of vocabs to learn.
Another choice is to do evening lessons but lately I have taken into running again and I feel so proud of my current personal records. I’ve only ever did 5km runs for the past two weeks and I have achieved 4x new PRs for those 5km distances. When I attempted a 10km this week - although a bit unprepared - I finished 30 mins faster than my previous 10km 5 months ago. I felt a bit proud of that.
Since today is a Sunday (as I’m posting this), I’m just taking it easy and maybe picking up Cure Dolly later. There’s a passing tropical storm this week, so that will really dampen my running plans for next week but I hope it’s gone soon.
Ohh, are we the same ? I always promptly clean my shoes when I get home. Two years ago I bought a pair and the shopkeeper said the white parts would turn yellow in six months. Mine never turned yellow, my proudest achievement
I do like my shoes to be clean haha but with minimal effort on my end. I actually bought a hydrogel spray which I sprayed to my shoes before ever using it. While my current running shoes had some mud marks on the mesh part, the sole is mostly clean still.
Kind of weird for the shopkeeper to say something bad about the shoe they’re selling (im assuming here) but same. I have a pair of white shoes (that i use for indoor running mostly) that I bought way back in March and it’s still in pristine condition haha.
We are the same, I use a wax spray. Doesn’t work on every material like you found out with the mesh. Mesh shoes are annoying. They’re great, but that mesh will discolor and rip so easily I hate paying for them. Ya want good running shoes that will stay together you know?
This week is quite okay. It’s neither easy nor difficult to learn the kanjis or vocabs of this level. Perhaps I’m in a better mood this time with all the running that I did. I didn’t have as much push back whenever I try to do my lessons so that’s a good sign. I’m gonna ride that flow until exhaustion sets in.
Which brings the vocab list down from 199 to 100! I didn’t do much Bunpro review last week either but I know I have to do it sometime soon. It’s nearly level 15, which was the level I had before I did my reset. So I’m just planning to level up as much as my time and brain power permits it. Then start running again next week.
Yeah but on the other hand it does let the feet breathe and it doesn’t feel as hot when running. I think as a standard, you can get around 600-700km ish on a good pair of running shoes before you retire them. And I like the ones with cushion. It’s easier on my old knees lol
This week I feel overwhelmed by the amount of backlog vocab I have so I just said “crap, I’ll just delay the level up for a bit and take my time.” I still have around 6 kanjis for level 13 that I have yet to study. That will give me enough time to catch up on the level 12 vocabs before starting on the level 13 ones.
That on top of the tasks I have at work right now. I feel drained to be honest and the typhoons recently don’t seem to let up so I can’t run my feelings off into the void. I just want to be a cat that baths in the sunlight all day long.
Yeah, the structure of WK makes it so you’ll always have some backlog when you finish a level, and depending on how aggressively you’re picking out your lessons in terms of leveling it can get out of hand quickly (cough speaking from experience cough). Definitely trying out new strategies to see how they fit is a good thing!
I know, I just updated the log today sweats but I swear I have been doing reviews diligently. Except for last night which was the first time I missed the evening reviews so I had a hundred reviews waiting for me before breakfast. Which is now conquered, along with the 25 new lessons + 7 new radicals because I just leveled up to 14!
I really need to pick up grammar soon because I’m getting the overwhelming feeling of WaniKani again. I actually missed 1 day of lessons and I was just doing other activities that I didn’t bother doing the bare minimum of 5. I think I’ll also stick to Sunday level ups for now until my work schedule permits it. My vocab pile is slimming down and hopefully, I’m next lol
That is exactly what’s happening to me right now. Whenever I take a look at my study list, I get overwhelmed by the amount of vocabs to do that I didn’t want to level up yet and get even more lmao. But because I delayed my level up this time, I somehow got in my head to delay the lessons to, so I skipped one lesson day haha. I picked it back up after I leveled up today so there’s that.
I’m planning (have been planning at this point tbh) to get into other materials like grammar and listening to podcasts but I still am being lazy about it sigh
I think that level 10-20 period is a great time to figure out the other resources, if only because that’s about how long I waited and I’m still adjusting so it’ll feel better to pretend it was wisdom and not just a lack of foresight. But I’d definitely encourage you to try to schedule a little time for reading or listening to see how it feels now, and hopefully it clicks.
