Ugh, I’m already underwater with my reading backlog. Not sure if I can fit the 4th volume of oshi no ko in as well now. But thanks for the reminder. It might be a good idea to add it to my spring readathon reading next weekend.
Hey hey, just a proposal coming from me and @shitsurei: I still want to capitalize on the momentum of the readathon and right now on Bookwalker and ebookjapan, the first five volumes of Yona of the Dawn, 暁のヨナ have been made available for free until April 1st
Does anyone have any fumes left to read it together? I’d definitely be interested ![]()
I do understand if people are still feeling a bit too tired though ^^
I’m clocked up with other stuff to read at the moment and sadly don’t have any capacity left to join anything more ![]()
Whaaaat!! I’ve always wanted to find out what that one is all about … I will totally try to take part if you start a club, although no promises with regards to how far I will get. But at least the first volume would be pretty awesome. (And if I start today I can use it for readathon stats …)
I need to at least take care of some chores that I’ve been neglecting (my 24 hours just ended), but I’d be down to at least give the series a start. ![]()
aaand we’re live
i’ll add the remaining four threads as I go, for now I’ll finish the navigation here in the OP and in the main thread for the book clubs!
HMMMM I might grab the first volume scan it in and and try to read just that one. It looks like it would be a good challenge. I’m not big into shoujo, or a fan of romance or pretty boys BUT the art looks pretty and I’ve heard a lot of good about Yona over the years. Solid maybe ![]()
The more the merrier! Even if you only read one book, it’ll be fun ![]()
Final call for the 暁のヨナ Book Club!
It was a wild idea in the first place and I’m glad so many people gave it a shot regardless ^^
We’re down to less than 24 hours before the 暁のヨナ book club is over - if you’ve got any time this evening and want to catch up as close away with the fifth volume - it’s your best time to do so!
We currently have one person who has read until the end, two people that made it through volume 3 and three people that made it through volume 2, good luck to everyone! ![]()
That goes on free often enough I wonder if we should make it an ongoing club (considering that enough of them go on free that most people are unlikely to get through all of them in one go…)
i’m not that desperate myself yet, but i am in the mood to scrape some more manga one day or another, i can just have the mokuro character count of 30k per volume stare at me in an an intimidating fashion, but it’s nice that so many volumes have been made for free ^^
If you were to start an actual speed run book club out of however many Conans though, I would probably join ^^
Thank you for letting us know those are up right now, I think I’d be interested!! My next volume is 5, and after that I don’t have any more volumes, so I could read 6-10 digitally!
I’d probably feel guilty starting one when I’m on volume 26. Sometimes I do think the series should have its own “talk about anything in the series” thread here, but I’d probably never get around to posting in it myself, either…
If I wasn’t like, dragging my feet on writing in my own language log (
), I’d maybe set a thread up.. I do want to eventually read (some of) Conan, but I keep kinda hoping it gets picked in the intermediate manga club..
The series is in such a woefully bad position for a book club:
- Furigana and BBC difficulty mean IMC may not be interested.
- Conan’s lengthy dialogue when resolving a case might be too much for the BBC.
- It’s over 100 volumes long (volume 108 just came out). Even with the club reading only the first volume, some readers will want to keep going, and that’s a daunting number of volumes.
It feels like it took forever just for the Takagi club to reach its final volume (at 20 volumes), and most long-running clubs I’ve seen steadily drop club-pace readers long before then.
…but Conan is such a good detective series.
