Skip/delay words during review

While doing reviews, sometimes I stumble upon a word that’s not coming to the front of my brain. Maybe I’m tired, maybe it’s a weird exception, doesn’t matter, I don’t remember the word right now. But I don’t want to just “give up” on the word either. I know I can just hit refresh to reset the page and get a new random word from my reviews to work on, but I don’t like that solution, since if I’ve partially answered items from my review (only meaning, or only reading), those items get reset and I have to re-review them all over again.

I just want a simple script that adds a skip button that I can click while reviewing so that I can circle back around to that item after my brain has had some time to chew on it.

If you cannot remember it, you don’t remember it. Accept the mistake and move on. Spending minutes trying to remember something is not helping you. Reviews should be quick, few seconds per entry.

Ok? That doesn’t really help me with my issue though. I don’t want to spend minutes trying to remember a word. I want to skip the word so I can come back to it later.

On a different note: having a “I don’t know” button would also be helpful.

Just input something.
if you cannot remember in a second, you will fail next time. it will cost you more !

Later Crabigator that hotdogsuplex mentioned is something that I used quite a lot along with Smouldering Durtles app’s skip button.

It will probably depend on a person how well it works but for me it works better than anything. Usually if I later remember a word that I skip, I pretty much never forget it anymore. So I’d say actually managing to remember it is very strong opposed to just getting a reminder after failing.

If you have an iphone then you could use Tsurukama which has exactly this feature.

I think it is better to try to remember, thus strengthening your neurological pathways (i.e. actively recalling) rather than passively checking the answer when possible. However I imagine that the effectiveness will vary from person to person and depend on multiple variables.

If you can’t remember it within a minute, it’s best to put your best guess(or if you have none, idk or い or something) and let spaced repetition handle the item.
In between reviews try to use the word in some way so it’s fresh in your mind and you’ll know it when it comes up.

This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you very much!

Yeah Smouldering Durtle’s skip button is a thing I use on the regular on my phone, and not having a similar feature on my PC was becoming a source of frustration for me. I’m really excited to finally have access to something like this.
