If you see votes from new users named Belthazorus, Belbazor and Balthazar, all in favor of the same book, it’s 100% a coincidence.
Just to forewarn people, my family has been showing more and more interest in Japanese lately and are thinking of joining in with the next pick. So don’t be surprised if you see Radish2, Radish5 and Radish7 around the forums!
Radish2 (父), Radish5 (姉), Radish7 (兄)
Oh no, Radish5 is 従姉妹. 姉 is Radish6. No interest in Japanese at all, much though I try.
Well, I don’t remember the exact calculation, but キノの旅 has a lot of illustrations. I think the actual text is just above 200 pages.
Also, chapters are mostly independents; I don’t mind if we only read the first half with the club, and continue as an offshoot.
We made that joke elsewhere, but yeah, some other polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, like @Anthracene might pop up at some point, then.
Alright, alright, I only have the capacity for so many jokes
I was actually thinking this too. If it did win, we should probably purposefully only read the first few chapters initially, and then continue separately if not enough people are still participating.
Are you saying I shouldn’t make a joke about knowing a lot of other Sean’s, like seanred, seangreen, and seanpurple?
You’re already purple, though!
I guess I am.
Guess I should find a blue avatar next time I change it.
You should also give up your lifetime membership then.
Can’t do that!
But… but the colours!
I’ll just make my avatar red then. Red + blue = purple.
@NicoleIsEnough If you have no strong objections, I’m going to exclude Wolf Children from the upcoming vote. I think it’s way too long for the beginner book club. We set a guideline of a maximum of 200 pages for a book to be allowed. (Of course, there’s two other nominees that are around 230 pages, and I’m inclined to keep them this time since they were added months ago and then remove them after this vote permanently). Are you okay with that?
Sure, please go ahead. You are right, it does not make sense to chew on the same book for ages on end.
(Although I’m at the same time fighting my brain which is trying hard to come up with some plausible reasons that might convince you )
Maybe we can include it in the intermediate book club poll? And then - in case it gets selected - either decide that longer books are ok there or see whether we can read more pages per week.
Nah, I wouldn’t be so obvious. My buddies Melchior, Gaspard and Nebuchadnezzar, on the other hand…
That makes sense to me. I’m sure we’ll need a page limit there too, but maybe 300 instead of 200 to account for a faster pace.
Do you mean Gasperd, Malchior and Nebochadnezzar?
No, I don’t think he does.
