皆さん, こんにちは!
TLDR: seeking resources to teach a 2nd grader Japanese, preferably offline ones.
I have a 7-year old, who, when she was five, came to me at the playground after playing for several days with Japanese children in our neighbourhood, and asked to learn Japanese. This rekindled my interest in the language, leading me to WaniKani, as I dusted off my 1st edition of Genki 1.
As for my daughter, we had enrolled her in weekly three hour session at a Japanese language school in town, then found out the next day we were being evicted from the place we’d rented for ten years. So I withdrew her registration, we moved to a nearby city for a year while we sorted our lives out, and there enrolled her in a weekly 80-minute class at the Japanese cultural center, which taught her hiragana, katakana, and some basic Japanese. (Numbers, weekdays, familial relations, はvsが, ですいるvsある, すき/きらい ) I am trying to keep all those fresh in her mind.
In the city we are now settled in, permanently we plan, I did find a weekly Japanese language/culture class for kids… but it’s not teaching her very much language-wise. I also arranged for a Japanese student from the local university to act as a tutor twice a month, so my daughter’s pitch is coming along nicely. But, I want to help her more.
Suitable resources I have: a child’s Japanese-English dictionary, vol 1&2 of Japanese for Young People (and associated audio files) that I could adapt lessons from, and a lifetime subscription to Rosetta Stone. (It was a gift, and was actually quite useful when I was teaching her German.) {My wife is German, and I want our children to be able to talk with their grandparents. I am teaching her 3yo sister at present.)
To complicate matters, we meter her screen time, so I am looking for suggestions for non-electronic resources. Though, I am considering MaruMori, she’d only be able to use it half an hour a day maximum, and on my laptop, which has no touchscreen.
So, I would appreciate suggestions for non-electronic resources, as well as any commentary on the suitability of MaruMori for young children.
助言をありがとう!
