So I just went through my reviews, and I must say it is kind of irritating having to put in the Reading and Meaning for a kanji differently, I suppose it would be easier if they display a kanji, and ask for both the Reading and Meaning at once, this way it takes much less time to go through them and almost halving the flash cards you have to go through.
Just a quality of life implementation I’d really like seeing ^^
It is better for retention to keep them separate. It’s a specific choice that WK made for its system, as they cover in the FAQ, so I doubt anything will be changed.
I believe there are some user scripts that change it, but I wouldn’t know which, personally.
You can do this by installing the Ultimate Reorder Script and enabling the ‘1x1’ mode, I find it really helpful. You can also do some other stuff with the script (as explained in the thread), but you don’t have to use all the features if you only want the reading-meaning back-to-back feature.
Separating the two types of cards and shuffling them is something that people have done intentionally since the days of good old fashioned flash cards because it’s better for retention.
I think it’s great to keep them seperate, but my most common mistake is typing the reading when wanikana asks for the meaning and vice versa. It would be great, if this kind of mistake wouldn’t count as a wrong answer, but result in a hint to put in the other. Is there a solution for this?
My lame advise would be: slow down a little bit. 
There is a bar on screen that says whether they are looking for meaning or reading. That bar also inverts its colours depending on what they ask for.
And of course the typed language changes. I’ve started typing my meaning answer, only to see broken kana appear before I realised it was asking for the reading. Same with romaji appearing where there should be kana.
You’ll get used to it in no time, with the thousands and thousands of reviews you’ll do in the course of WK. ^^

@rfindley has said that he might include this feature into his Double-Check script if someone wants to implement it, which I did last week. I don’t know if my feature implementation will be accepted, but if you really want this feature you could also just directly copy & paste the modified code from my post. If that’s the case let me know if you need further instructions on how to do this.
However I also agree with @omun that you will likely get used to differentiating between reading/meaning questions really fast.
