Reading Vol. 5・ふらいんぐうぃっち・Flying Witch (Beginner Book Club) 🧹

I’m so happy we keep this up. Even if I don’t use the thread a lot for questions because I use the manga to just read and not stress out about not understanding 100%. So I guess I don’t have questions I might otherwise have. But just knowing there are some people who also read this each week is a nice motivation boost and (it’s fun, too). :+1:

I’m enjoying this series so much that I think I’ll keep reading all the volumes until either I get bored of it or they stop publishing it :sweat_smile: The slow pace and beautiful scenery is kind of like a relaxing holiday (I only found out today that most of the scenes are based on real landscapes and buildings), and it’s comfortable to read something nice within my reading ability.

Thank you for creating this book club, I probably wouldn’t have discovered this series on my own!

This seems to be fairly common. I’ve seen photos showing places from よつばと!, 三ツ星カラーズ, and of course アリア. I always find it enjoyable seeing comparisons between a drawn scene and a photo of the actual location =D

Yotsuba is slightly the odd one out in that list, because though real places were certainly used as the inspiration for locations in the manga, the manga’s locations are not explicitly those places. Flying Witch, Mitsuboshi Colours, Aria, Yuru Camp, et cetera, and so forth, are all actually set in the locations they appear to be, so you can literally go there and visit the same areas.

Well… for Aria, at least, you can visit Old Venice. :stuck_out_tongue:

You can follow Elon Musk to Mars Neo Venezia if you want. :stuck_out_tongue:

I accidentally started the discussion about Vol. 5 in the Vol. 4 thread - sorry about that! I’m trying to make up for this by continuing here :slight_smile:

I’m assuming that we are indeed continuing with Flying Witch; so the most interesting question is: When do we start?
In the past, we had a long (2.5 month) break after Vol. 1, a two-week break after Vol. 2, and no break after Vol. 3. If we want to continue this trend, we should have started last week already :joy_cat:

Now, seriously. I have no idea how many of you already have the full series and/or read it as ebook, and how the chances are for getting books from Japan (I’m hearing mixed reports…)

To figure all of this out, I’ve prepared a little poll :upside_down_face:

  • Immediately after Vol. 4 is finished (i.e. June 27th)
  • I’d prefer a one-week break (i.e. July 4th)
  • I need more time (please specify in the thread)

I’m reading the ebook so have no preference, but happy to continue the series with the group! :slight_smile:

Yeah, I have no preference either. I’m fine both ways. I usually buy the ebook when I want to start reading.

We have 6 people who would like to start immediately, 2 people who are fine either way, and only one person who’d like a one-week break, I’d suggest we start reading vol. 5 straight away, i.e. on June 27th (if that is ok with you @Kyasurin? I’m sure you can catch up to us in no time even if you prefer to have the break :wink: )

@Radish8, if you could add a thread for vol. 5, that would be great! Would you like me to type up the chapter names etc. for it or do you have the time to do it yourself?

I should be good :+1: will make it this evening.

Edit: here she is

If somebody could either let me know the last page numbers or add the information themselves (along with page count), that would be great :slightly_smiling_face:

Do the few pages between chapters count in the one that finished, or the one that’s starting? Or neither?

EDIT: I updated the OP in the new thread, :bowing_woman: if I made any mistakes :sweat_smile:

I’m not sure :thinking: did the previous volumes have that? You might just have to see once you start reading.

Thanks! I’m sure it’s fine :slightly_smiling_face:

New volume starting tonight! :broom::woman_mage:

Just for clarification, am I still on chapter poll duty? :sweat_smile: I think @Radish8 is still sitting out for now, but I can keep doing the participation polls if no one else wants to :blush:

(Of course if I’m late, please feel free to make the poll!)

I’m still sitting out I’m afraid - you’ve been doing a fantastic job after all your predictions of forgetting every week :grin:

So I know you’ve only just started, but… shall I make a volume 6 thread for August? :blush:

@skymaiden @NicoleRauch @denzo @windupbird @davids68 @ChristopherFritz @2OC3aOdKgwSGlxfz @Nenad @Kappa420 @Kumirei

  • 8th August!
  • 15th August
  • I’d like a break after volume 5
  • I’m not sure I’ll read volume 6

I’ll leave this open for a while in case people’s feelings / situations change. Or maybe it will be so decisive there’s clearly no point :sweat_smile:
