Maybe we should ping the mods Radish does not seem to have been online for over a month

That’s sad. I hope they are fine.
I remember them disappearing for a while in the past as well (I think?) so maybe they’ll just pop back at some point.

@Mods would it be possible to make this thread into a wiki. We would like to update it but the current owner is not responding.

Sure! It’s a wiki now.

Ok I have updated the main post. I am not a regular so I can’t change the title. @Belthazar if you could do that, that would be great!

Beginner book club voting now

In absence of radish I (the much less handsome person named after a vegetable) am here to inform you guys that the beginner book club is now voting on what to read next. If you are interested have a look!

So, are we pushing straight on to volume 11 today, or taking a break?

Ha! You posted that just as I was setting up the next volume’s thread!
I can still change the start date, though.

Nuh uh, too late to change now.

Gah, I’m not a Regular any more. Though to be honest, that stuck around longer than I’d expected.

Those kids these days and their POLL threads. It’s messing up the weather I’m telling you.

(edit: that sounds unclear; I’m saying that extreme posting there is leading to an increase in the requirements for being a regular)

So the poll threads do count towards Regular status, huh? They can fill one of those in a week - I’m not sure I want to spend all day scrolling through those just so that I can make wikis and edit thread titles.

Though, forum mods can manually make people regulars. Is it worth petitioning them to manually promote a group of actual regulars, or would people feel that’d just cheapen the role?

It does, but there’s a cap (which is obviously reached). To keep a regular status, one does need to read an average of 200 posts per day (over a 100 days). Thanks to the Kumi regular script, I know that my average is 31.6 posts read per day over the past 100 days. I do come regularly, but since I only care about the reading section at this point, it won’t get much higher than that.

@seanblue tried that in the past, but the admins are against it.
What they could do is lower the cap so that one needs less post reads to get the regular status.
For instance, if the cap was 5000 (50 posts read per day), I feel like the person meeting that condition could still be called a regular, and it would be much more common outside of the POLL thread.

What script is this?

The Regular Tracker
Note that it only tracks data from the moment you have installed it, so you need to use it for ~100 days to have correct stats.

Ah, that’s unfortunate.

Also, I think the admins could change the Regular rules to ignore the Campfire section, but surely the POLL Regulars would be upset. Of course, I think people that regularly contribute to the #wanikani and #japanese-language sections would benefit from the Regular powers far more than those who mostly contribute to the #campfire section, but maybe that’s just me.

For what it’s worth, I haven’t been a Regular in well over a year because of the current imbalance in posts/sections.

Does the title need an update? NicoleRauch and denzo are also still regulars

It do, yes.

Wondering how often Regular status gets reassessed. Like, can I get it back today by reading every thread that comes up, or is this gonna be a long-term investment?

Edit: Wait, you’re the regular here, @Redglare. :stuck_out_tongue:

News to me :eyes: I don’t think I’ve been a regular in over a year

I should really catch up

Doubt it… It doesn’t get you regular status on its own anyway and everyone who’s bothered is on the rest of the forum as well

I’m regular! :3 Tho not currently reading with the book club :caught_durtling: that will change after I’ve finished my exams
