Daily reading done ![]()
Falling asleep reading this chapter because I had a huge day. It’s bed time! And omg it’s the last day of September. See you in the next reading challenge… must be the autumn one!

16h42 to complete the first volume of 無職転生, almost at half of the second volume after almost 6h so I should be finished around 12-13h ˆˆ
I spent 30H50 reading over the past 3 months. Not too bad considering I was quite busy but it is sometimes difficult to have long reading sessions. I’d like to catch up with the anime but that’s around book 15 I think. At the current pace, ~a month per volume 13.5 months
Better get more reading time and increase my reading speed… xD

I finished the light novel that I had begun in August and, after that, solely focussed on manga for a while, finishing 12 volumes, dropping 1 volume and starting one more volume on September 30.
Thanks to the Readathon over a week ago, I managed to read more than what I would have read for this month, and before and after the event I still read every single day that helped with some steady progress still.
And thanks to this challenge I’ve come very close to achieving one of my goals this year which is to surpass 100 books read in Japanese in total. ![]()
With いちこえ、にふり、タチアオイ, I’ve started book #96 now, thus this should be possible very soon.
As for the Autumn Read Japanese Every Day challenge, I won’t be joining it (right now or at all) because I simply need a break from making any daily or frequent-ish updates – even the ones I made throughout this challenge felt like pulling teeth to be completely honest. ![]()
Nevertheless, I will try to read (almost) daily until the end of 2026 and might even join the Autumn Read Japanese Every Day Challenge around December or the Winter Read Japanese Every Day challenge but I can’t say for sure yet.
I might see you again sooner than later in a reading challenge thread again but until then:
happy (daily) reading, everyone! ![]()
Happy reading and resting to you!
There’s no rule that says you have to update daily if that makes any difference. I only update daily when I have the time and energy. Some folks just update weekly or about every 10 days. I’m sorry that you felt like you had to post so often.
I hope we can see you again soon!

Oh no, you don’t have to feel sorry, @DIO-Berry !
I’m aware that there isn’t a specific rule as to how many updates one needs to do in the Challenge threads. Technically I could have just updated once a month, if even, or only at the very end of the challenge.
Some rambling
So i’ts not anyone’s fault; It’s my own fault.
Well, “fault” is perhaps a bit too strong of a word here…how about stubbornness mixed with a little bit of perfectionism? as I’ve put myself under pressure to keep the updates somewhat regular – which already didn’t work as the tediousness of it got to me.
I already compile my tracking in my documents/notes, so doing it again for this thread is basically double the work. And sure, it’s only filling a template with latest information which seems like a small thing (and technically it is), but it all adds up.
And if I haven’t updated for a few days, it annoys me because there’s constant background noise of “you really should be doing an update soon or else it will get bigger” in my brain and I indeed have to gather more information at once for the bigger updates.
So regardless of consistent and small or rare but big update(s), it’s a hassle for me. ![]()
(Although one of the main reasons for being just done with all kinds of updates is because I’ve had less patience for months now, which is down to health issues I’ve been having for a while again.
On the list of all the rubbish I have to deal with on a daily basis in my private life while suffering several days if not each day a week, “making small updates in any thread” is very far down on my priority list.
)
In any case I will take October off for sure as far as Challenge threads and mini updates go; I’ll likely still update here and there in the FF club …and maybe try updating my log a little bit (but I’ll see about the latter and I’ll take your words of caution into account @Lisaveeta .)
But any additional updates I don’t need to do on top of these, I wish to stay away from.
Technically I’d like to join the Reading Challenge again whenever I pick up reading the second VN I put on pause in May(?) which will likely be around November or December as I wish to finish it before the end of the year.
And maybe it will work out with even less updates, though even a monthly update for these challenges would likely irritate me still, but only time will tell.
In any case, you’ll likely see me at one point in the Challenge threads again I just don’t know when. ![]()
I wish you the best of luck with your health troubles! It sounds rough and I can see why it would get obnoxious to double track your reading as well.
A small post to conclude this challenge for me.
The final result is that I read significantly at least 63% percent of the days. It’s by far my best performance for this challenge
.
Recently I’ve being in a slump mostly due to life reasons and thus I’ll be trying something else than pushing the book edge for the Fall session.
The first two months of the official challenge were nothing short of amazing.
Thanks for hosting @DIO-Berry and thank you all for keeping the thread lively.

Read chapter 25 - Now we get even more backstory! Lots of things are sliding into place now, and I had a …wait a minute… moment were I think something has been figured out.
I will always recommend reading Ranpo!
Tbh this wouldn’t surprise me either, if some of the developers/writers there have also read Ranpo. Everyone should read Ranpo ![]()
I wasn’t feeling 日々蝶々 by the end of the first volume - I just wasn’t enjoying the characters very much. So I’ve paused reading it for now, and decided to see what else I had that would be a nice easy read for my busy days.
Turns out I had a copy of おかえりアリス that I picked up for free from Bookwalker a while ago so I gave that a try, and WOW that is an unpleasant first chapter for a manga. …I’m not convinced these characters are going to grow on me either.

A bumper end-of-challenge summary post this time, because I forgot to do one for the official end of the challenge in August!
15 volumes completed during this challenge, which I’m really pleased with because predictably enough, things did not calm down for me during the Summer ![]()
I didn’t hit any specific milestones in this challenge, but I did reach the end of the currently published volumes of ゆびさきと恋々, which feels like an achievement of sorts. ![]()
I’m hoping to end the year strong! Thanks everyone for keeping me motivated - no way would I have maintained an almost 5 year long streak of reading every day without all of you!
See you all tomorrow for the Fall Challenge!
Amazing! Congratulations on five years of continuous effort. Hope I’ll be able to write the same thing in the future.

September is over!!
During the last challenge I only finished the main challenge, this time I read all the way through to the extension! I read quite a lot of different books, including my first, second, and third novels!
I also played many hours of Pokopia and finished the game just this week. DLC soon ![]()
See you all on the next thread!

Bit tired, needed something easier today. There’s a lot of weird stuff on Mars…
Congrats on another challenge everyone, and thanks for hosting @DIO-Berry !

And that’s a wrap for the summer challenge! Stayed up too late reading 裏世界ピクニック because it’s so good. I’m right at the exciting finale of the volume and wanted to keep reading, but had to stop because life. Would have been cool to finish the volume during this challenge, I guess, but it doesn’t really matter!
And here are my final results! Compared to my spring results, I read for 6 more hours and a handful more pages. But, I also made meaningful progress in my first light novel, which meant that I added a “characters” tally and filled it with 26k characters read! I also finished far fewer manga volumes, but instead read a bunch of series that are currently being serialized.
I think the biggest development this season was that I finally felt comfortable to read whatever I wanted. Before, I’d been really sticking to recommendations for beginners and feeling really reliant on the Natively level of a series. This summer I took the leap of reading series without Natively ratings and built my confidence. I’ve been buying actual manga magazines and discovering new stories from them, and reading yuri blogs and websites to find new series. I definitely found some things way over my head and learned some lessons about the pros and cons of reading something far above your level, but in the end I’ve found myself at a new level of comfort with the language and am ready to jump into anything without fear.
Best of all, I’m finally reading stories that I want to read that I’m genuinely enjoying in a language outside of my first, which was my goal from the start. It’s only up from here! Thanks for reading with me, and thank you for being our gracious host @DIO-Berry. See y’all in the autumn thread!
It does, thank you! I did a little test run during my dog walk today and I think I can commit to that! Looking forward to trying something new.
Wow, what an incredible achivement!!! I’ve been thinking of stopping to focus on other aspects of learning after I complete a full year on Jan 1st, but you’ve inspired me to consider continuing on. At this point I can’t really imagine going a day without reading something anyway, and I’ll never catch up with my 積読 list if I stop, right??
I played some more Mystery Dungeon. Furuya also got some heated chapters and it’s suddenly clear that this series switched to digital because suddenly the chapter pacing makes sense lol. I’m really enjoying it although it has me on my toes wondering if blondie is the big bad or not. Chii is also so cute!
On more individual reading matters, I really surprised myself by how much I threw myself into reading after giving up on the JLPT. I hate that test so much. I didn’t realize how much energy I was putting into it and giving up on reading. It’s been a while since I kept up with logistics as well. I loved having nice graphs to track my pages read, but now that I’ve gotten into webcomics, it’s less possible and I think for the sake of what energy I have that tracking volumes is work enough.
I have to admit that I’m a little disappointed because I accidently broke my reading streak, but I guess that implies that I need to take better care of my sleep hygiene since I fell asleep with the lights on rather than actively choosing to break it.
Somehow this summer turned into a BL, or more accurately, MLM story focused summer?
I finished…
- Strange Neighbor
- Baka
- and X回目
I’m continuing
- 夜分に吸血失礼します。
- ふるやモノノ怪
- ダンジョン飯
- 虎とボク (maybe)
- 蟲師
- カードキャプターさくら
- ポケモン不思議のダンジョン
- チーズスイートホーム
- Magic TreeHouse (at a snail’s pace)
- Streamer (webcomic whose cover is too spicy for WK)
I’m dropping
- Seoul Dhampir (interesting but time management)
- あやし道連れ (too expensive atm, but I’m hoping to find it in print)
- the crossdressing dentist (also time management)
Of these, 7 heavily feature MLM couples EVEN IF ONE OF THEM IS AN IDIOT WHO WOULD DIE FOR THE GUY HE LIKES AND EVEN LIVES WITH HIM BUT CAN’T FIGURE OUT THAT THEY’RE A COUPLE. Of the rest, some of them feature background implied MLM couples, so yeah… Summer of Gay
This fall, I’m planning on reading more Clamp, JoJo, and Cherry Magic with a volume of Mushishi and Dungeon Meshi when I can fit them in. I’m also hoping to keep up with Mofusand, possibly catch up with the JoJo book club (although I might wait until after I hit my annual goal), and successfully read all the Halloween Book Club picks! Of course, I also plan to continue with ふるや and Chii until I run out of free/already own vols.
See yas on the fall challenge!
28/9 7 pages 変な家2, 10 pages 舞妓さんちのまかないさん (read chapter 154), 16 pages 約束のネバーランド (finished chapter 99, started next)
29/9 5 pages ふたつのスピカ
30/9 2 pages ふたつのスピカ
One very good day, followed by two not very good ones (was busy packing!).
I basically do the same, then copy/paste it into here. And usually add a couple of comments. But zero extra formatting.
Wow that’s amazing!
