Today was a long and challenging day. Wasn’t sure that I’d have it in me to get a good read in at the end of it, but I felt a little more relaxed after I could finally cool down with a nice shower. It’s been hot and smoky here all week and I’m so over it. Autumn vibes are sounding more and more appealing lately.
Read chapter 3 of 月はタピオカみたいに. I’m really smitten with this series! I’m realizing there’s yet another layer of this that is a Taiwanese food showcase which I’m just so down far. Today’s chapter featured what I understood as fried swordfish kamaboko (skewered fish paste) with egg inside of it, and then later fatty tuna sashimi. Each dish has a cool hand lettered feature panel (check out that frame, so cute!!), though I find it tricky to read and look up.
Ah, so good. Tomorrow I’ll be starting @Kami_Neko and my mini book-club for はなにあらし２ and sailing the sea of fluff, and then I’ll probably finish catching up with this series and sail the seas of IMPATIENCE waiting for the next chapter to come out. At least there are a billion volumes of はなにあらし to read in the meantime…

You can see the influence of expressionism in this print. I like how the pine-hills look like scales.
残燈 ― 上州水上 (1958)
I love how soft the colours are in this one. And the little trees on the hill.
隅田川 言問橋 (1959)
The people always seem to look lonely in Kasamatsu’s prints - the colours are a lot better in the book, this print here looks pretty old and worn but I couldn’t find a better one.
隅田川 あづま橋 (1959)
Another print of a bridge on the Sumida river. I like how gentle everything is - the colours, the brushstrokes, the composition.
These two Sumida river bridge prints are some of the final prints he did in the 新版画 style.
火繩銃
Next Ranpo! So far we have a guy in an Inverness cape reciting passages from Poe’s The Raven while posing dramatically looking out the train window. 
I’m starting to think I’ll have to read Poe before trying to tackle Ranpo!

Just two more little chapters of スーと鯛ちゃん 2. I’ve been following the advice to read the entire chapter with no look ups first then go back through and look up what you didn’t know and it’s been working quite nicely. There’s a surprising amount that can be looked up even when there are very few words haha! Every now and then I’ll come across two individual words that I know but when they’re used together they have a whole new meaning that I didn’t know which is quite interesting to work out.

Had a nice day today around the house. Got a lot of tidying and the like done, as well as mulch and fertilize my garden, which just gives it that professional look. Happy with how it turned out!
Read the first two chapters of はなにあらし２ early this afternoon during a doggy nap. It’s been awhile since I read the first volume, and I’m happy to say that reading went much more smoothly this time. Always nice to return to a series after some time as a glimpse at how much you’ve improved! @Kami_Neko let me know when you’re done with the first two chapters and we can discuss!!!
Also read a bit of chapter 4 of 月はタピオカみたいに. Really wanted to finish the chapter, but I waited until too late in the day and simply cannot keep my eyes open. Will probably finish it tomorrow!

・ドラクエ・ビルダーズ２「破壊神シドーとからっぽの島」
I made it through the harvest festival and the brainy badboon’s first appearance, so I’ve got about a third of Furrowfield left. I think I’m pretty much done with building too (at least until I can come back with windows and infinite wood), so it should hopefully go a little faster.
Turns out my café idea wasn’t viable and Lillian won’t cook even though she absolutely should, and I have no idea why, but whatever. I’m not messing with it. They can eat kelp.
Had a massive two days and I did not carve out any time for reading a full chapter yesterday or today. However I have done many wonderful things and seen wonderful people and places 
tomorrow I will aim to do my reading the moment I wake up.
