I’ve been away on cat-sitting duty since the readathon without convenient access to Bookwalker so instead I restarted my Animal Crossing island, or as I now know it as “あつまれどうぶうの森”, to play through in Japanese and slowly started working through the game’s opening. I used a Game Gengo video to check my work (i’m so glad I found this!) and also handwrote the sentences in my shockingly bad Japanese handwriting to make some grammar notes.
My reading for today was to finish going through the intro and then afterwards I ran through it again (absolutely not because I was being picky about my villagers ) and had a nice laugh at how my hours and hours of work is actually only a minute or two of reading for a native reader! It’s something to work towards in a few years time at least. Now that I’m past the point of the Game Gengo video I feel like I’ve had my floaties taken away!
I’m going to use this opportunity to hold myself accountable for finishing the volumes of the 安達としまむら manga and IDOL×IDOL STORY that I bought while I was in Japan. I was going to read those manga for the Summer Solstice 2026 Readathon, but travel wore me out more than I expected. I’m going to read at least one manga chapter a day. I will definitely run out of chapters to read before the end of the challenge, so I will also use this opportunity to finally finish ネコぱら Vol.1!
Wahooo another reading challenge!! Hoping to read more stuff this round; last challenge I read 8 books total, I think I can hit 10 this time. And I’d like to read more novels
Not a big start but I read a little starting around 9 pm at work today. Got ~5 pages of Harry Potter book 2-1 read in the last hour and a half of work. It’s a start. They missed the train! How will they ever get to Hogwarts now? Wait a minute … Ron’s dad has a flying car. Hmm.
Honestly I could have been reading more today but work was a little busy and I kept not wanting to put my phone down long enough to pick up the book when I did have free time at work.
Today’s reality: …a lot less reading than I’d hoped for.

I’m hoping to catch up on my yearly reading goal during this season’s challenge. My current target is being at the 49.8% mark of my 2026 reading goal. I’m currently at 49.3%. And with a three-day weekend coming up, there’s a good chance I won’t catch up with my goal this week.

Hey everyone! Excited for a summer of reading! I’m going to read mostly from Satori Reader. I’ve finished 壁の穴 and 春 and now reading 夏. I am using Satori Reader to make extensive reading more convenient due to the ease of looking up grammar and words. I do at times click on unknown words and sometimes sentence translations, but mostly trying to understand through context. I’ve got a lot more time in July due to a confluence of reasons so for now, full steam ahead. Happy reading everyone, and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s progress
First day down! Not a lot of free time today, so had to default to some N5 Graded readers, but we got it done! Taking part in the Yotsubato read-along, so that’ll help with consistent material once that starts.
I spent more time reading His Majesty’s Dragon today than anything. It’s really good. I knew I’d like Temeraire himself from what bits I stumbled upon on tumblr, and it does not disappoint. I’m almost certainly gonna be looking for the rest of the series after I finish this volume.

I did an Elusid map a few times to grind levels before switching to one I’d gained on a whim (I liked the name: 残された大地 lv 56 | Platinum [Mine/Lair/Path/Crypt/Nest] of Bane, lv 56). It’s got gem jamborees (ゴールデントーテム in JP, which is so much better?? I hear “gem jamboree” and my mind immediately goes to the darkonium slime before I remember that, nope, it’s not a gem slime, it’s the gold recolouration of the metal medley) and also king cureslimes, from which I got two (2!) slime crowns. Either they like me better than the king slimes, or their drop rates are better. Anyway, the boss is Sir Sanguinus (weak to fire, not light; where tf did the wiki even get its info? グランドネビュラ is still Milly’s best attack against him though, even if it’s not nearly as damaging as if he were weak to it, but man does it eat up the MP. I really need to max out the sage skill and also get her Hallowed Arrow, as unless I can get Sap to take, she can’t steal any MP from him with a wand…), and while it’s difficult, I can beat him, even though three of us are only lv 30, give or take. Which should mean I can take Shogum, especially as Botts now has Ooze Bruiser, right? I can indeed! I can even spare Shion to try and pinch a miracle sword (have not yet succeeded)
In any case, yeah, I haven’t made it back to the Realm of the Mighty yet, though as we’re all lv 30+ now, we’ll probably be fine.
Hello, new challenge! So lovely to see some fresh faces and the like!
Starting things off with a few pages of ささ恋 (Whisper Me a Love Song), which I’m continuing from the Spring thread. Anyway, had a pretty good run tonight before I started nodding off. It’s been a long and hectic week, but tomorrow marks the end of my work week so I can finally catch up on some rest perhaps. And certainly some reading.
I have a new puppy who is adorable and wonderful but requires so much of my time. I’m finding that I do have some downtime in the afternoon when he’s playing with our other dog and the like, but it’s not quite enough to be able to pull out my tablet for reading. Maybe I can pull out something like Satori Reader or even a light novel on my phone and have better success reading it in small pieces? Hm…
That’s the spirit! A cherished method of mine! Try to do everything all at once and then get burnt out!!!

Yeah, it turns out that if you do new lessons, you learn new words and get new reviews instead of just 三日月 for the 400th time because you keep forgetting that the っ is dropped and there’s rendaku!

Read chapter 5 - time to enter the attic space and see if there’s some creepy thingy up their staring down through the panels… if horror movies have taught us anything it’s “don’t go into the attic space to look for the creepy thing”
Also I don’t think I’ve read such a detailed and disturbing description of someone’s nape before.

It’s interesting how a new story with new vocabulary makes reading a tad slower. Learning many interesting words such as 樹液 (sap) and 根っ子 (root/small root).
I really want to have an unbroken streak this summer challenge. Here’s to 60 (or even 90!)
