Found out the hard way that there’s no internet at all during my low cost plane trip so read without any parsing help… and it was okay(ish).
Not being able to check the readings is definitely a gripe for me even if the meanings were all clear.
Nobody cares if you got a kanji reading correct right ?
Still I was upset not knowing… guess I’m really rigid about it as they mock me.
Anyways… catching up on the thread… there’s a lot of love incoming…
Besides that, I have also played some Zelda Wind Waker and Xenoblade in Japanese today
Zelda Wind Waker was one of the first games I have ever played as a child and throughout my life, I have replayed it many times. So I gotta be honest, I’m oftentimes just skipping through dialogue as I know the rough content anyway, but it is kinda cool to sometimes see it in its original language now
Another chapter of まいにち鳥びより today, this time all about ducks!
I’m really enjoying the challenge of reading this, and I think the lovely artwork and the infectious enthusiasm that comes across in the writing really help me to stick with it. I definitely need to stop leaving it until late in the evening to start reading though because where I’m at right now I need a bit more energy for it!
I reckon this will be one that I’ll return to in a year or two to measure how far my reading has improved (hopefully it will have done at least a little bit by then!) so I feel like I’m laying down a nice benchmark for myself right now
I feel like a lot of black and white dogs have a similar color pattern. I’ve definitely seen a few of his doppelgangers out and about…the funny thing is, he has like 12 siblings (rescue) and they all look totally different!
Read:
・ドラクエ幻の大地 Quest 19~20
・unused text for a sunken ghost ship in DQB2 on TCRF
Reading the VI manga while the VI event is going on in Smash/Grow is kind of confusing, especially as I’m in more or less the same place in the manga as the event is, and it’s already kind of confusing in the first place with the whole real-world/dream-world thing.
They got off in the chapter numbering. The 目次 correctly has the chapters as 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, but the chapters themselves say 18, 19, 20, 20, 21. Made me think I had gotten off for a second there, but no.
Played:
・ドラクエⅨ「星空の守り人」 (180:51 ⇒ 188:57)
Did a lot of spelunking and got rid of quite a few of the new maps I got these past two days, including several without opening because I could tell by the name that they’d be low rank. But though I completed every single map I opened, I don’t think I got a single drop from any of them. Equinox was dropping dragontail whips like candy yesterday.
In any case, I found two new environ words! 地下道, which is Tunnel, and 雪道, which I’m pretty sure is Snowhall. Also, I’ve still got 37 unattempted maps… Though I did defeat Trauminator with nothing equipped for that one quest and gained Mortamor’s map, and also attained the accolade for 5,000 battle victories! I left off trying to get the gem jamborees’ special drop for another story quest. They really weren’t kidding about it being ときどき. They’re already a rare spawn, and they already love fleeing, and now ya gotta make the drop rare, too? Augh.
Getting closer to the art section now, this book pulls no punches on the obscure words or kanji usages. I’m learning quite a few new words! But not sure how long I will remember them for
Also noticed that the book uses 渡邊 for Watanabe rather than 渡辺 and searching for the difference I found the Watanabe ukiyo-e store!! Here’s the website, it looks like they specialise in doing reprints of classic ukiyo-e prints now. It’s not in the original location - as the 1923 Kanto earthquake destroyed the original building (along with so many artworks, lost forever ) - but so making note of this location if I ever get to Japan.
This photo has appeared in both the Hasui and Kasamatsu artbooks, the only artist on there I’m not familiar with is Ito. It seems he focused more on 美人画 and I’ve never been all that interested in artworks of people - but having a look it does seem he did some landscapes too, will have to research more!
Anyway I added a little name tag for each person (hopefully it is legible). This photo is of them all outside, what I think, is the original workshop.
Yani Neko (Chainsmoker Cat) is the first anime I’ve been watching in a long time. It is pretty disgusting but at the same time, you want to keep watching (and you do feel for the characters trapped in their situations!). It’s quite surprising in how much detail an anime shows drug abuse and addiction - while packaging it in cat girls to sell it all The first three volumes can currently be read for free on bookwalker, so I checked it out. Not sure if I actually want to continue this, the spark hasn’t quite caught on as with the anime
I also got a coupon on bookwalker with a 40% discount on buying a first volume of any book series. I had 攻殻機動隊 (Ghost in the Shell) on my mind for a while and now that there is a new anime adaptation of it, I saw it a bit more online again. Since the manga is usually pretty expensive, the 40% discount was actually pretty good - got it for 900 Yen instead of the usual 1500 Yen
Late update: fell asleep on the couch reading 聞き耳ラジオ. It’s been a really long week. This weekend is relatively full, too, so it may not be a plethora of studying but I’ll do my best!
