I know we’re a reading thread, but any mention of fish like this calls for some mandatory viewing…

創る庭 1 | 22? | manga | 125 → 164 | 1hr53min |
Managed to read quite a bit of 創る庭 today! My reading time is waaay less accurate than usual because I kept getting interrupted by mischevious puppy, but it is what it is. The plot of this chapter suggests that this manga might go a little deeper than I thought, but we’ll see how it plays out. Almost done with the first volume, though!
This looks really cute!! Makes me think of しあわせ鳥見んぐ, a cute 4-koma about a college-aged girl who is looking for inspiration to add character to her artwork who meets another girl who is wildly enthusiastic about bird watching. It’s filled with information and puns galore!
Thank you; I feel enlightened!
…where is the mandatory doggo pics pocky-pocky ちゃん ?
Don’t tell me you…forgot ?

Starting on my next artbook - art by 笠松紫浪
笠松紫浪 全木版画集
Read the first page.
With this book there’s a bunch of information at the start, all the art in the middle with little bits of text and a bunch of additional info about his life at the end - like an art sandwich. So will read the introductory section and then read some more Ranpo when I get to, and go through, the art section.
The interesting thing with 笠松紫浪 is that he was born a little late to the 新版画 art movement party - being born in 1898 - so all the artists of that movement, like Hasui Kawase, were well into their careers by the time Kasamatsu was just starting his. Kasamatsu ended up being one of the last artist of this style, he was a bit like an Endling of ukiyo-e, he lived a long life (living until 1991) and produced artwork all the way into the 1980s. It’s real interesting seeing how he adopted and developed into the more intricate and complex style of Shin Hanga Ukiyo-e before veering off onto his own path, re-simple-ising (not a word
) his style again with much influence from the Western art movements of the 50s, 60s and 70s. Will be looking forward to going through this book!
PLEASE, that music video is incredible
hahaha
So many birdy people here!
I think I actually found this manga from someone on these forums reading it but I don’t remember who. But thank you to that person haha!
This sounds lovely! I’m putting it on my wishlist, thank you!

I played more Granblue Fantasy Relink. I’m not sure if I will ever start the Endless Ragnarok story line. Right now I’m not in the mood to grind that much. Better to play something else I guess.
Oh this looks adorable. I have added it to my wishlist. Thanks for posting about it!
Today: finished Chap. 44 of よつばと! Some days it takes everything in me to read just a few pages but I’m always glad I did.

This manga has really short chapters and pretty easy grammar, so it’s pretty nice to take it easy with.
Looks interesting, another bird book for the pile. Thanks for bringing it up!
Thank you for the education, these are incredible ahaha

I slowly worked through the second chapter of まいにち鳥びより today, which was all about Cormorants. I’ve always thought that Cormorants are one of the most dinosaur looking birds but the illustrations in this manga make them look so charming. I learned from my reading today just how green their eyes are!
Like before I’m mainly sticking to the writing that has furigana attached for now but I am enjoying scanning the handwritten notes to look out for any kanji that I’ve learned. I’m also getting some good katakana practise in too which I thought I knew better than I actually do

Read section 0 of Chapter 8
綾小路 is really astute about people in this book, which is … exactly my kind of YA lol. something something the fantasy of having a deep understanding of everyone around you. in the anime, if i recall, in the end 櫛田 (directed by 綾小路) gets and distributes last year’s midterm to the class which is ultimately what saves everybody (well with an asterisk, but we’re getting fairly spoilery here lol)… i’m curious if that is how things play out here, since it seems like for the moment everybody is gonna try again with the 勉強会
I realized that without my really noticing, my kanji knowledge has made it so i’m (sometimes) only looking up a couple words per page, which is a great feeling. strange too to sometimes be like “well, i have a vibe of the word but let me confirm”.
at one point 堀北 says that during class you really only need to take one page of notes, 精々 two, and i was like “well, if i ran the zoo, that word would be pronounced せいぜい and would mean ‘at most’” and behold, i was right.
