NANA 15 第54話
Thought I was up-to-date with bookclub, but it turns out I was behind. Got another chapter to read before Saturday!
the Tadoku graded readers are really great 
I read one volume (so ~5 small books) from levels 0 to 5 and enjoyed them a ton. the later ones especially do feel like reading, although you wind up aware that your level of comprehension is being catered to lol. i cried about an elephant.
Today: a good chunk of よつばと! Chap. 44.

Chapter 12 complete = book complete!
In true Ranpo fashion he drops a revelation that changes everything. This one was much more serious and, in a literature sense, was more thought out than the Hell Scene one but… I kind of enjoyed the Hell one a lot more, it was just so over the top. I did enjoy this one, but there were quite a few parts were the main character would go over the same information repeatedly.
Next, I’ll still be reading more Ranpo! But I’m thinking I’ll start an artbook too to go alongside all the Ranpo. Will see tomorrow!

Read the fourth Vagabond volume out of five that I have bought to test out the series. I think I’m gonna commit to the series 
I feel like it’s going to be pretty good
The manga are quite a bit more expensive than regular Japanese manga but they feel quite nice. The cover images you find on online shops don’t do the real ones justice. For example, this is the one of volume 4 on natively (which I guess they take from one of the linked stores)
In reality, they are not the usual plastic dust covers with a simple print on them, but the dust covers are made of paper with the Vagabond logo itself being some reflective foil. It looks quite nice and I especially like the warm colors of this volume!
They’re also a tiny bit larger than the usual Japanese manga format and contain some color pages. Now this is by no means comparable to those hardcover deluxe editions some manga are getting in English and other languages, but it’s still a step above your regular Japanese manga. Not sure if this is really worth 870 Yen + tax compared to other manga, but that’s the situation

Today I read the first chapter of まいにち鳥びより / “Everyday is a Perfect Day for Birding”, which is a manga made up of essays based on the author’s love for birds and it’s right up my alley!
It’s a few levels higher on Natively than ふらいんぐうぃっち (22 vs 19) so I was planning to save it for a little while but I kept scrolling past it and the temptation was too strong 
. The difference in difficulty is definitely noticeable for me: there are sections of hand written writing and writing with no furigana that were tougher, but I managed to generally follow along with it. The author’s enthusiasm is really infectuous and I think I’ll probably find myself going through it again more carefully in the future to study it a bit closer but for now I’m just enjoying it at the level I’m at.

I pretty much just read 安達としまむら1 the last few days, but I think I realised my enjoyment to difficulty ratio was out of whack, so I’m stopping after the first chapter/short story. It’s not that it’s indecipherable, but the main character has a lot of internal thoughts that often jump in weird directions that I find difficult to follow, alongside not really knowing all the vocabulary. I actually think I will enjoy this when I find it easier to read.
Might sneak in a Yotsubaと next before embarking on the next (easier) LN.

Pedantic publishing “professional“ 🤓️ jumping in --
fun fact book covers are (almost) always paper and (almost) never plastic, that would actually be way expensive! Regular manga has a really really high gloss coating on the cover, which is why it looks like plastic. Witch Hat Atelier or like the new / complete version of Sailor Moon have a matte-ish coating, your Vagabond probably is uhhhh hmmm lightly coated. Part of the reason they’re more expensive probably! Gilt is also not cheap but it looks real good.

I went crazy on the novel I’m reading. This is my first novel and I’ve been stuck at 20% for months now, I feel like it’s a lot easier to read now. I also finished the first volume of ルリドラゴン and a few chapters of xxxHolic.
I barely had any free time today so i just read a chapter of 王様ランキング and did my vocab review on satori and an episode
Thank you so much for this! I tried looking up if Rei and World should also be read together and found people recommending to read Card Captor and X/1999 before Holic and TRC. What do you think about that?
I have 6 vols of CCS and 5/7 of Tokyo Babylon but all of Holic and TRC. I have all of Wish too, but given that it’s based on JoJo characters, I assume it’s not recommended prior reading
