Finished chapter 3 of Loopers. Reading on Switch and not looking up much makes me long for when I get to level 30 or so. So many kanji I don’t know! For now I switch to English when I don’t understand something. I’ll re-read Loopers in a year or so and see how much I understand then!
Makes me want to revisit 電車男

I started volume 19 of Teasing Master Takagi-san today, and read the first chapter.
It’s the penultimate volume. After 3 years of reading this with the ABBC offshoot club I think I’m going to have some sort of existential crisis when we reach the end of Volume 20 and there is no more.

Day 12!
Alright missed posting for a day cause I randomly woke up in horrible back pain that kinda consumed my day, but I did read about 20k characters in Chaos;Head, both yesterday and today. Until I get a little faster, I think this is a good number to aim for. I remember a while back when I was posting in an earlier one of these challenges stopping in my VNs at the time after 3 or 4 thousand characters, so that’s sure progress.

Finished the VN! Overall not one I’d really recommend going out of your way to read, but it definitely had some cute moments, especially in the 3rd chapter. Was released in 2010 and you can really tell, it’s such a 2000s type story: basically 100% pure cgdct moe fluff. A bit inconsistent in tone between different sections too, the last chapter like totally changed narration styles for some reason? But if you already know that’s your jam and happen to run out of easy stuff to read, go for it 
You actually read Hanahira! That’s more positive than any other take I’ve seen on it; it comes up constantly as the sorta first JP VN meme pick that people say is easiest but if you pick it it’ll bore you so much you’ll drop Japanese. Glad to hear a measured opinion on it compared to that, haha.

Yeah, if I was reading it at a pace of like 1-2k characters per day and agonizing over every word, this probably would have been an awful experience being able to zip through at more or less the same speed I’d be reading it in english definitely skipped a lot of the tedium. But really even for someone who likes this kind of story (aria, k-on, non non biyori, that kinda super saccharine slice of life stuff) it was just so much nothing. I would definitely not call it “good” and I’m probably never gonna think about it again after today unless someone brings it up for some reason

Did heart events for Marion, which involved talking to everyone in town asking if they wanted to be her guinea pig, and Raven, which was just her wanting me to come with her for a delivery.

My keyboard died so I didn’t want to deal with formatting on my phone (and I couldn’t use some of the buttons for Little Witch in the Woods…), so I got a new game: Potion Craft! I’m back with a keyboard now so I’m prepared to alt tab and look up words and type up vocab and everything. And with a little sleeping in on everyone’s part, my quiet mornings have become a quiet afternoon/evening today.
This game is also hilarious. Almost nobody knows what they actually want and says “I want X potion.” They say “I hurt my head” or “I was shot with an arrow” or “I got locked out of my house.” Since I’m already doing the work to figure out what potions they want, might as well also do the work of translate what they’re saying.

Another weekend where it’s too hot to basically go outside at all (up to 39C!), but at least that means more time for reading. I should be able to finish this book by Monday.

Reading by the swimming pool on vacation, it doesn’t get any better than that! A little from Kuma bear and a few other books. Trying so hard to find something that’s both interesting and easy enough without looking up every single kanji. Sigh… At least it’s easy too look up kanji on my Kindle.

i enjoyed all that remains. i don’t think it’s a book for everyone (as a non-fiction book on death and forensic anthropology it inevitably goes to some pretty difficult places) and i found the second half less engaging than the first, it was still an insightful read.
now what to read next
つ and ぬ today. Now that I am 1/3 through classical Japanese grammar, of course I am beginning to get impatient and looking for things to buy read. I like the look of this 百人一首 book; it seems like it would help a lot with the cultural background aspect of it. Though I do worry that Mokuro won’t be able to pick up on the smaller pink characters, which would make reading it a bit painful.
