I was kinda curious if something like this existed, so I went out to see if I could find a site with transcripts for the project sekai story segments: Sekai Viewer (can change language settings to only show japanese) might be of some use to @PotatoDancer too

Maybe my perception of “not a lot of text” needs a check-up, because when I threw a few chapters I’ve read into a character counter, and they seemed to average out to almost 2000 characters 
It almost felt like cheating to put them on my log before, but that’s got some substance to it! Idk how good of a sample size I got, and it’s kind of a pain to do this by manually removing all the names and sfx, so I really don’t want to do it for every single one I read, but it’s nice to have it there for look-ups and more quantitative sense that I am actually reading with this and not just sneaking it into my log as padding.
Being extremely conservative with those character counts and cutting out another 10% for symbols, just getting through all the band introductions is about 220k characters (6 bands * 21 chapters * 1800 chars), which is about the length of two full light novels. No wonder this felt like it took forever to do in english Being even more conservative with a 1500 character average: counting all the event chapters puts this a bit over 2 million characters, that’s almost the same length as umineko When I was talking about this earlier I was like “oh you could totally get like 10-15 hours of reading practice in this game” and just like vastly undershot that estimate by probably an order of magnitude
And that’s just the main story stuff! There’s hundred of other story segments on cards, side stories, and other irregular release type stuff, if you flip through the categories on that site it’s easy to see a truly staggering amount of text stuff in this game. It’s almost unbelievable that it’s “free”
Tried to wake up early enough to beat the heat so I could do some soldering outside, and replaced all the dead batteries in my SFC games. Even by like 10am it was still getting hot out, especially sitting in the sun with a hot iron 
everything was success, and I only accidentally burned myself once!
Everyone I’ve talked to says that Dragon Quest V is one of the, if not the, best dragon quest games, so decided to testplay that for a bit. Feels good to read so far! It’s in that nice zone where I can understand the vibe and follow instructions without needing to look up much, but still some new words for me. Figuring out all the menuing and combat is probably gonna take some getting used to, but I’ve killed my first slimes already
Other than that, too hot to think today, so just kinda napped a lot 
Might come back and do more later later tonight, but even just sitting at my desk is exhausting

- Yesterday was a write off (two pages of 大正月 so as not to break my streak) but I at least managed to finish off a chapter today. I just realised the pace increased in the club so I’m actually behind a week… will have to catch up. It’s been a horrible week for study and reading, but them’s the breaks sometimes.

Very little reading done the past 2 days as my life has been consumed by editing and proofreading a paper. Hopefully I can make up for it a bit at the weekend. Also I planned a 10 day trip to Japan for March 2025 (which will have been 7 years since I last went) so really I should practice some speaking and listening more than reading…

Day 10!
Very good day of reading. I read 25k characters of Chaos;Head, which is quite likely the most I’ve sat and read of one thing that I was tracking counts in like this. I also timed my first hour of reading and managed 12k characters in an hour, which is the fastest I’ve managed, at least while actively tracking. Slowed down after for sure, but I’m starting to get tired so it makes sense, haha. If I can start pushing my amounts up closer to this on good days, I’ll be much happier with my progress. There’s a lot to go but I’m also kinda getting there? In general it’s more natural.
Last night I played a few hours of SMT5 Vengeance, and he appeared!
There it is, the demon I took my name from back in SMT3: Nocturne. Beat the boss and fused him after, cause I can’t NOT use だいそうじょう. He’s not as strong here as he was in 3 because resource management was a much bigger task in 3 (at least at the point where he becomes usable) and his ability to heal better than anything else could at the time and drain MP to work endlessly was straight up game changing, whereas 5 so far has big fights that are fun for strategizing but is designed to be more digestable and doesn’t really use attrition in the same way. Still, it’s my namesake.
His Japanese isn’t as tricky as I worried it could have been, haha. All the demons have very distinct speaking styles and some are based heavily in old Japanese.
