Read quite a bit. Was reading mostly with Kanae stream in the background, getting some passive listening along with active listening when I was not reading. Stream in the background while reading is both grounding and distracting. Today was a good balance, feels good.
Sometimes it has weird kanji editions when there are way more common ones, but it’s not often + it has furigana everything I think, so it’s not that much more difficult than normal.
Makes me want to do the +1 difficulty challenge. I’ve read a bunch of L31 and L32 novels, and 13 L33 books. So starting from L34 then, only 3 books read. After that one book in each of L35-L40, tho the L40 book doesn’t count, it was a jlpt preparation textbook. Hmm hmm Just for curiosity to see what’s it’s like to do more lookups on a regular basis again.
I’ve never played Mother 1, but I have played Mother 2/Earthbound before. I played in English, so I don’t know how playing the game in Japanese is, but to be honest, even playing in English is a confusing experience. I mean… where do I even start? It’s, uh, quirky. Yeah, let’s go with that. It’s a great game, though.
Read:
・21 pages of 化石少女と七つの冒険, reading ch 2-1 and leaving off on pg 72
・ダイヤのA㉝
・3 chapters of ダイの大冒険
Oh my gosh, the mob monsters are actually named the way they are in the games. “Dancing Flame A,” and so on.
Actually, that whole sequence was funny. Dancing Flame A leaps at Popp, who dodges, and it lands on a rockbomb instead, who just looks at it and goes, “…メガンテ,” and the other dancing flames and frostburns are all like, “Aaaa, Dancing Flame A!! You bastards, you killed Dancing Flame A!!” (directed, of course, to Popp-tachi)
Played:
・ドラクエ・ビルダーズ2「破壊神シドーとからっぽの島」
Anessa: -goes on about encampment this, encampment that- Malroth: -looks around at the shabby throne room- Malroth: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Returned to this manga during the readathon, and now read it in the evening when I don’t have energy for novels with lookups. I want to read more novels, but I love manga as well, and it is better to read something than skip.
I’m not doing the every day news challenge this time as reading something at all is enough for me this time. I mean, I might read it from time to time as well, but not going to push myself right now.
Finally sat down and finished this one, it was weirdly harder (or at least I often felt tired after a single chapter) than it should have been based on the vocabulary - I think the main culprit was the lack of furigana.
Anyway, @Kami_Neko and I have spontaneously decided to do a little readathon part 3 today. So if anyone wants to join, you’re welcome to do so
it’s not 100% serious, but yeah, let’s just get some more reading in today
Started the manga for the other book club I’m doing this round (Beginner Book Club). 午后のあくび1 is adorable so far, I love it!! It probably has my favorite writing style of anything I’ve read so far. It’s a little more poetic and narrative, I think, yet still feels easy to engage with. Looking forward to reading more of this one!
Also spent some time poking around on Yuri Navi, a yuri-focused blog, to see if I could find any new interesting series being released. I’ve been pretty intimidated/overwhelmed by Japanese websites, but I think it might be time to start getting familiar with web language so I can actually engage with the internet more in Japanese. Not going to bother recording this in my results table, but I did read through a few summaries and even skimmed a few samples. Felt good!
