Today’s seasons was about the spring and fall equinoxes and some wagashi.

The new JoJo chapter has me reeling. I appreciate that it seems like we’re being given the genre pretty early. A heist story feels like something Araki hasn’t done yet, but is still interesting and exciting. Of course, he could always change the genre later, and I’m delighted to see what happens next. I feel like in this chapter we also get some hints at how “Dio” fits with Jodio. I can’t believe that Araki is actually having a character be called out on a medical level for being a psychopath. It’ll be interesting to see where that goes. Also, Rohan!!!

I almost started reading the new Crazy Diamond chapter last night, but I flipped through it and it looked like more bullshit that ignores establish canon. Although, Hol Horse in danger is fun.

Planning on hopefully finishing vol 10 of JoJo this weekend.

Motivation has been oddly touch and go lately, but amidst my attempted productivity on other fronts I did get in some BU$TAFELLOWS! I’m enjoying Shuu’s route a lot, very intrigued to see where it goes

I’ve been bad about my book clubs and reading 花束は毒 instead. It’s a fairly slow book, but I’m hoping things will speed up soon as I’m at the half way mark. It’s neither good nor bad, just fine. I think it’d probably be an ok airplane book.

I also started reading レベル７ tonight but I’m so incredibly exhausted and can’t focus. It does appear we’re getting into the Japanese-social-issues 宮部みゆき that I’ve come to expect, though.

I got an email from CDJapan today saying that 空への助走 got a bunkobon version this month, and I knowww I don’t need it since I already have the tankōbon, just like I knowww I don’t need the tankōbon ver of the main series since I already have the bunkobon, except I really want them. Augh. And to make matters worse, CDJapan does have all 3 tankōbon of the main series in stock…

Today ended up being a kind of blah day for reading, though.

• preview of サマーサイダー. On the one hand, I’d like to read some more Kabei Yukako, but on the other hand, this one’s got a love triangle… It’s a mystery too though, and it could be interesting. It’s about 3 teens who are the last graduates of their middle school which has been closed down due to declining population and birth rates in their town, and about the mysterious death of their homeroom teacher last year which apparently has something to do with them. Well, I love her writing in 2.43, so I think I’m going to take a chance on it.

It says, as mentioned in Ch.6. So that’s how chapters are counted.

• 残月記 : そして月がふりかえる Ch.8-9 (end first story)

The story is probably OK, but I got confused in the middle. Two lots of reading (first to middle of Ch.8). Problem was, it felt too long and no paragraph break.

Though, I have a little qualm of city names being an alphabetic letter, not that I haven’t seen this pattern before.

Words of the day

• ぴんぴん(.) = (on-mim) being very energetic
• もそもそ(.) = (on-mim) dry food crumbling / speaking quietly / squirming = もぞもぞ
• ぐらり(.) = (on-mim) shaking violently
• かごめかごめ = a Japanese children’s game. 籠目(かごめ) = woven pattern (eyes, 編(あ)み目(め)) of a basket (籠(かご)). Though, the word is said to come from 囲(かこ)む.
• くゆらす = to smoke (cigarette); to burn incense = 燻(くゆ)らす
• 短冊(たんざく) = an upright paper for writing (e.g. in a store; poems). No Furigana. Also, different reading for the second Kanji.
• 湾曲(わんきょく) = a curve. The first Kanji is the same one for bay, also in 台湾(たいわん), but has a second meaning for curve (= 弯曲(わんきょく)   /   彎曲(わんきょく)).
• 破水(はすい) = rupture of the (amniotic) membranes, preceding childbirth
• 脱臼(だっきゅう) = dislocation of a joint. The second Kanji is 臼(うす) (= a mortar).
• 新手(あらて) = a newcomer / a new method
• とば口(くち) = the first step; the beginning
• 相性(あいしょう) = affinity between people. I keep forgetting how to read the Kanji.
• 増幅(ぞうふく) = amplification
• 蒐集癖(しゅうしゅうへき) = collecting habit (mania) = 収集癖(しゅうしゅうへき). Has Furigana. IME wouldn’t even try to suggest the first form. The first Kanji is generally replaceable with 収・集, it seems.
• 清廉(せいれん) = upright; integrity
• 貫禄(かんろく) = significant presence; dignity. Has Furigana.
• 僥倖(ぎょうこう) = unexpected stroke of luck. Has Furigana.
• 陽動(ようどう) = feint; distracting (tactics)
• 追(お)いはぎ = bandit = 追(お)い剥(は)ぎ. Also, highwayman; gentleman of the road; road agent; holdup = bandit, it seems.
• こらえ性(しょう)がない = lacking patience = 堪(こら)え性(しょう)がない
• 目論見(もくろみ) = a plot; a scheme. I’ve heard the word, just can’t guess the Kanji form. Verb form is 目論(もくろ)む.
• 鍔迫(つばぜ)り合(あ)い = close sword-to-sword duel. First part has Furigana.
  • 鍔(つば) is a sword guard.
• 真綿(まわた)で首(くび)を絞(し)める = to strangle slowly with a silk cord (instead of quickly with a rope); to torment by slow degree.
  • 真綿(まわた) is silk, while 綿(わた) or 木綿(もめん) seems to be just cotton.
  • 絹(きぬ) and 絹綿(きぬわた) are also silk.
• 墓穴(ぼけつ)を掘(ほ)る = to dig (one’s own) grave. The first word uses On readings. ケツ is also that hole.

Instead of looking up by page (real-time) in a dictionary, I took handwritten notes of vocabularies (and scribbles). I can understand, and got to the end of the volume, but became a little sleepy.

Somehow, a heroine’s name is being called プー. (Though I can somewhat guess the reason.)
