Steins;Gate Update

Chapter 2
Did another 30 minutes today. Got through the second internet thread a lot quicker as I’m starting to speed read and glance at the comments criticizing John Titor. Love the interactions with the characters afterwards and the story is starting to move again, not that it isn’t always moving but I need the character interactions. After that hit save and I might play tomorrow.

I got a lot of reading practice in today so I wasn’t sure if it would happen but everyone’s posts motivated me to get through at least a couple segments. So thanks.

It was a friend’s birthday yesterday, so we went out to do some thrifting and then off to the arcades for a bit. While we were at a store, I found what looked like a pretty interesting book, but I couldn’t quite figure out what it was since we were in a rush and I didn’t have time to decipher the back cover:

It looks like it’s a book about the experiences of different adults reading picture books to children through a book distribution club? It sorta looked like the chapters are broken into different age brackets, introducing good books for those particular ages as well as sharing some stories. No furigana, but the text itself didn’t seem super hard.

Potentially could be fun to read through it and read each section of the book along with reading the stories; just using it almost like a reading list for popular children’s stories

After lunch, I was comfortably reading この本を盗む者は while idly playing ねこ島物語 (mostly just crafting things at that point), but then the internet/wifi cut out and I couldn’t continue playing ねこ島 (I mean, sure, technically I still had cellular data, but it sucks and nothing likes to load), which totally threw me off my rhythm and so I didn’t get very much reading done today…

With Saezuru I’m down to 3 books at once. Let’s see if I can finish Fukakai in time for the next club reading. I went ahead and ordered vols 1-5 physical from bookoff, but they didn’t have 5 so I didn’t receive that. I’ll try to get it from elsewhere. It’s been so long since I read it though that I forgot where I left off and apparently didn’t get much further than I had last read.

I’m thinking of turning this into a reading weekend and knocking out the volumes of LaLa that I haven’t read yet either before I get back into JoJo. I’m getting pretty behind on my goal to read 75 volumes of manga this year…

Loopers
1 fiction chapter + a little non fiction reading in English

Been a while since I got to add to my calendar. November in fact. Took me a tiny bit to get into it, and I’m still kinda getting there. And yet, I haven’t seen if I’ve gotten better since I read it last, like knowing more. But one thing I do better, is be okay with ambiguity, and skipping looking up a word or two if I can figure out the sentence probably isn’t that important.

Plus, with a log as many VNs have, it isn’t like it would be hard to go back and look it up if I discovered a couple of lines later that I needed it.

Also poking my head back into books in English which makes me happy. I had a pretty good streak going through the later part of January, but it just kinda fell apart at some point. I spent more time watching videos and gaming, than reading, so both reading Japanese and English didn’t happen.

At least I am still ahead on my English book reading goal of finishing a book a week. I have a feeling I might be a bit behind on my Japanese reading goals, at least when it comes to the harder reading of VNs and novels, but if I can get in the habit of Loopers and B$, then I’d probably be back on track in a couple of months. Easier said than done.

Also, anyone here interested in reading Ouran Highschool Host Club? The manga I mean. The anime has an end, but perhaps a bit rushed. And the manga is something like 18 volumes, and the anime only covers 8 of those if my info from the web is right.

Me and a few others are interested in reading it and was thinking of starting in May/June, and if more people are interested, we could make a schedule club out of it. If not, I guess we’ll maybe have a casual club instead. ^^

I might consider popping in at the beginning to see how it feels. I haven’t done any book clubs because reading is a solitary activity for me and I like it that way but I love Ouran High School Host Club. I have the whole series in English and the first 3 volumes in Japanese. I was also planning to start reading it this year for the reading challenge so… we’ll see.
