Felt sick last week, so barely read anything. Finished chapter 12 of 魔女の旅々. Damn, witches are crazy

ルリドラゴン Volume 1
p. 18 - 26
I did my first take of the second week’s pages! Just a very quick run down without using the vocab sheet or looking up any grammar on bunpro or ichi.moe to get the feel of it. A new character has been introduced! Is that considered a spoiler? I’m not too sure. Will reread again over the weekend!
So I mistakenly read the spoiler cause I skipped the first few lines of your post and I didn’t see the pages you had read above hahaha. I assumed you were reading for the upcoming week (p18-26). Lesson learned: read the headlines first!
with chapter five and the 後書き that’s volume 5 of 蟲師 complete! this was a really good one all round, both with the individual stories and the wider character development we got for ginko. i’m also quite happy chapter 5 ends the way it does without a solution unlike most of the other stories do. given that it dealt with memory loss it would have felt a bit strange to have ginko wander in with a cure for something that functions an awful lot like dementia.
words that stood out: いびき (snoring), 更ける (ふける, to get late, to advance, to wear on), 老ける (ふける, to age, to grow old, to show signs of age. wonder if this and 更ける were once the same word, in pre-kanji times)
belated happy birthday!
hope you’re feeling better now!

Happy (belated) birthday!!
Day 55, 24th of February
Last time some rumbling was going on, today we see it was these six wolfes. Apparently they came sprinting at top speeds or something, it’s unclear how they appeared. It’s pretty much impossible to fight six of them at once, so fleeing into the woods it is.
Card Captor Sakura volume 11 – progress report
Yesterday: Continued up to page 103.
Today: Read up to page 141, finished chapter 44.
One chapter left. Sakura has finally changed all the cards into her own and Eriol is finally about to explain his schemes. But that will have to wait for tomorrow as I’m tired already.
On another note: happy (belated) birthday, @natarin !
Word or expression of the day:
大騒ぎ - (おおさわぎ) - clamour, uproar, tumult
February 23rd & 24th (Days 54 & 55)
23/02/23: この本を盗む者は (13 - 16%)
24/02/23: 1Q84 Book 1 後編 (0 - 11%)
I took a day’s rest from reading 1Q84 yesterday to catch up with the この本を盗む者は book club but… I am really struggling. Don’t think this is my cup of tea. But also hesitant to drop it because maybe chapter 2 gets better?
Anywas, today I started the second part of 1Q84 Book 1 - read chapter 13, and itching to read more :3
Happy (belated) birthday!
Today I read Chatpers 3-5 of Komi Can’t Communicate. Its interesting so far.

I keep falling asleep
I read more Tsugumomo vol.5. Nearly done with this volume after that I only have one more volume of Tsugumomo to read in japanese.
3852 pages read
Started Chainsaw Man Buddy Stories. It’s fun reading and hearing the anime characters voices. That was actually a reason why I waited to read it for so long.
I’m about halfway through this week’s reading of 半落ち, seeing if I can get through the remaining 25 pages today. Luckily I really like this book so I’m not bored, but it’s not a fast read for me. Too many unknown idioms and a decent scattering of sentences I have to think about to make sense of, although fewer than in the beginning.
I quite liked this two sentence set, which without context is not a spoiler and is a minor thing anyways:
Excellent summing up of a character in just two brief sentences. I definitely want to read more 横山秀夫 after this book as well.
Chapter 2 isn’t magic realism, so it’s probably a lot easier for people to keep track of what’s happening because it follows more normal story conventions rather than “crazy thing happened!”. I enjoyed ch 1 but I can see why it wasn’t too popular.
So I guess it depends on what you’re not liking, but I will say the genre of chapter two is more or less gritty noir detective drama. I’m really digging it, which probably isn’t surprising
I always feel very inspired reading your guys comments here and specially @WaniTsunami . I hope I’ll soon be able to read as much as you guys. The other day I struggled hard with Conan Volume 6 the second case (File 5). It was devastating. I’m of course used to encounter many kanjis and words that I don’t know but this one, boy it was a struggle, maybe I was also tired that night… anyway… I kept pushing, re-read it the next night and the gist of it sunk a bit better. Reading is indeed challenging but I believe in consistence. It’s worthy to mention that I’m well aware that Conan is above my level, but I think overall it’s making me read better things that are around my level (lvl 18 right now).
Comparing to my previous endeavors (back in 2015) I feel like I’m reading way more than that time and understanding also way more of it. Looking forward to be able to read more “advanced native materials”. I’ll be happy when I manage I can finally read my lvl 30 light novel collection.

Thank you all for the birthday wishes Got in a more solid reading day today and finished off the Limbo route! Finishing a first route is always an exciting prospect, I look forward to seeing how the next one will go
Consistency is key! I remember being so jealous seeing people finish manga volumes in one sitting and honestly the secret was just doing it more.
I started with my hero and remember one chapter being a challenge. Then I started getting time to read 3, 4, 5 chapters a day, then that turned into a volume, then 2. Not quite at 3 yet (I gotta do stuff for my family at some point). But I did move to books which take me about 2-4 weeks depending on my drive.
Level doesnt matter as long as you enjoy the process of reading! Good luck!
That’s exactly my feeling. I’m so jealous of you guys reading manga and novels within a week. Watching anime and drama, listening to podcast and understanding it all… I’ll get there!
The secret is accepting ambiguity. I don’t understand everything but I know enough to not be lost. That’s the sweet spot for learning.
