I read chapter 7 and 8 of ふらいんぐうぃっち, so I made quite the progress. I didn’t read また、同じ夢を見た but feel motivated to make up for it tomorrow. Having a sort of rest day today I guess.

The volume of 声優ラジオ ended pretty much as expected, with 由美子(ゆみこ) somehow suddenly being able to give the best performance of all time after some basic advice, despite previous abject failure, once again showing that the author knows very little about the intricacies of 声優(せいゆう) work (which is pretty expected but unfortunately very uninteresting to read).

On another note, I started reading the second volume of 週クラ, a new yuri light novel whose first volume came out this February. I’ll avoid going into the premise (not sure if it’s possible without it sounding way too racy) but people have described it as “爛(ただ)れる (festering) Adashima”. It’s similar to Adashima in that two girls at odds with their social environments find solace in each other and forge a relationship, but rather than the puppy-dog love Adachi has, the main character 宮城(みやぎ) is much less honest with her feelings, oftentimes choosing to vent her anger and irritation at 仙台(せんだい) (yes like the prefectures lol) in ways that can be difficult to read. In fact I wasn’t really sold on the first volume because of how harsh and acrid their relationship felt at times, but they seem to be a little more comfortable with each other now… I can only hope their relationship doesn’t take as long to develop as Adashima though…

Word of the Day: 断末魔(だんまつま) - one’s last moments, death throes. The demon you become works nicely as a vivid image for the desperate, agonizing way you struggle at the very end of your life.

Day 3! I ended up opting for Ghost Trick with the time I had last night, which is really fun and I’m enjoying it a lot.

I’ve been playing Ghost Trick myself recently (in English admittedly) and it’s great! Seems like the simple writing and big font would be perfect for a Japanese practice game.

finally finished part one of case one of 逆転検事(ぎゃくてんけんじ) 2, man that took me a lot longer than i expected. i know this game is about twice as long as the last one but still! 虎狼死家(ころしや) 左々右(さざえ)エ(も)門(ん) has made his reappearance, i think he has the longest name so far does it count as a spoiler if i don’t give his english name? hm

today’s fate episode was ネモネ’s, which was fully voiced this time cos it was an SSR. i think the default order in the list is あいうえお, rather than rarity. today’s nhk articles were this one on (tw violence) a man deliberately driving a truck into an elementary school and hitting four children) and this one on unexploded ordinance in okinawa.

Just spent more than I probably should have done on two books, they’re not even in Japanese, I mean they’re related to Japanese, there might be a miniscule amount of Japanese in them somewhere, but the Japanese equivalents are always about twice the price (I think for one of them the Japanese version was about 3 times the price of the English, and that was without postage or import duties).

79th (+19) chapter of バガボンド
11th chapter (+1) of 俺は星間国家の悪徳領主！

Somehow I binged 2 volumes of バガボンド in 2 days. ~20 chapters spent watching characters stare each other down, 10/10 would do it again. I had to stop myself, otherwise I might’ve finished a 3rd volume Today.

Looking through book clubs, I’m starting to second guess whether to just continue with my current list instead of splitting attention between stories. I’ll probably pick up スーパーの裏でヤニ吸うふたり when it starts in ~9 days because it looks like a nice slice of life and I’m starting to really enjoy manga over novels.

Ouran High School Host Club by 葉鳥 ビスコ : 24 pages

A Dictionary of Basic Japanese Grammar : 4 entries (finishing K)

Well, read all of part 3 of chapter 2 in Ouran, meaning I’m now up to the current week and have 1 day to read it. Well, considering it will be the longest week yet, I’ll probably finish it over two days, but for the next day and change I’m actually caught up and reading along with everyone else. ^^

I also finished off K in the grammar dictionary. So I’m now last week and this week behind. But if I keep having fairly easy entries so I can read 3-4 a day, I’ll be caught up very quickly.

It is funny, because in a way I’m going hard on my Japanese reads because I’m avoiding what I’m reading in English. But hey, if it means I catch up sooner, I guess it isn’t too bad?

Day 6! I went through two stories in 10 Nights of Dreams today, 7 and 8. So I’m making good progress towards finishing this and moving to my planned novel. Today wasn’t TOO hard but definitely had a lot of words to look up, like terms for old hairstyles and that kind of thing. The stories are neat; I really like this collection. It has me excited to eventually come back to working through older Japanese writing more.

I’m expecting that I might finish Ghost Trick within a couple days too if I keep putting the time in. Going to have to think more about what to do after that.

I just really like the art on リンネ, and she’s been super likable generally. Cool characters in this game.

I’ve been playing Ghost Trick myself recently (in English admittedly) and it’s great! Seems like the simple writing and big font would be perfect for a Japanese practice game.

It really is! It’s usually something I’ve been reading later at night after I already post so I haven’t been talking too much about it the last few days, but despite lookups here and there, it’s about the closest I’ve felt to being able to just sit down and read Japanese unassisted. I’m enjoying it too!

I also wanted to give NHK easy a try one of these days, and I was surprised to see that I could quite easily read 2 articles in there (it’s been ages since I’ve visited their website). Perhaps I’ll try to go for native-level journal articles some time!

Read just a page of Kusuriya. I’ll definitely reread it again because I got stuck and just closed the book. And then the day went by while studying and almost forgot to read. Since I finished vol 1 of Nausicaä yesterday, I figured why not continue with vol 2 as well. (Also watched a lot of Gundan Witch S2.)

JoJo was great although I read less than I thought I did it was nice to see Kira in Araki’s style though. Usually I like the manga style better than the anime’s, but I really dig Part 4’s anime style. I like Kira and Killer Queen in the manga better though. Kira looks more lanky and like David Bowie imo

I wasn’t feeling that great yesterday, I think it might’ve been the smoke from all the fireworks on the 4th. Really just couldn’t focus at all on what I was reading, but today feels a bit better.

• 小林さんちのメイドラゴン ch 8, 9, 10 - done with volume 1! and with the first volume of this challenge! This is definitely one I’m keeping, although I might shelve it for a bit. It’s still just a little bit too much work for me to read a lot of it comfortably. – I also just realized that’s my first completed volume of anything in the orange levels on natively I’ve been working on several things in that zone for a while now (ouran, mushishi, コンビニ人間), but just haven’t actually finished any of them yet

Finished volume 3 of Crystal Hunters with an absolutely shocking backstory thrown in there. I love that the authors are not afraid to give some depth to the characters! I was introduced to the conditional form today, and I feel that through reading just these six days, my knowledge of verbs is finally starting to cement itself. I’m excited to begin the next volume tomorrow as I move closer and closer to native material.

I’m convinced the review on the back of the translation of Six Four calling it a binge read is a lie. It just drags on and on; it’s such a slog to get through. Sure, I still wanna know how it ends or else I woulda dropped it a long time ago, but it’s impossible to binge. (This is already my 7th month being on it.) Sure, it had me hooked in the beginning, not gonna lie, but it took a nosedive soon enough. After a few chapters today I decided to pick up Support Your Local Wizard again for a bit, and that was much nicer.

• 88 pages of あの空はキミの中, finishing the book! It was really good. Despite being written for middle schoolers, I enjoyed it. Apparently it was supposed to be a pure love story (as in love that is pure, not that it was meant to be purely romance), but it ended up way more baseball lmao. But what romance there was in it was pretty cute.
• this article on the usage of「ポテンヒット」in baseball and the business sphere, since it wasn’t in Shirabe. In English it’s called a “Texas Leaguer’s hit,” and if it’d just said that, I’da assumed it was another name for an out-of-the-park home run (everything’s bigger in Texas, and all that), but that name comes from a single player in the Texas League hitting 7 consecutive singles in one game that way in the 1890s. Apparently it’s not called that much in English anymore, and I dunno how often it’s called that in Japanese, but that’s the main listed synonym. (The English etymology I learned on the English Wikipedia page.)

With Shadows House, I can definitely feel that I have a stamina issue where I’ll often feel kinda intimated just by seeing a lot of text on a page, even when I know most of the words and can read it smoothly. And then I start feeling tired when there are consecutive pages with lots of text. Anyway, I’m sure that this is something that’ll improve with time.

Been meaning to say, I’m watching this with a lot of interest! I hope you enjoy. That’s more or less the only Ace Attorney game I never played, on account of its lack of English release (I know it got the fan patch but I never did it). I should really consider that as something to read in the near future, though I think I’d need to replay the first for a refresher. I hope you enjoy it! People seem to consider it one of the best of the whole 逆転 series.
