I did a social (two actually!) and my social battery wasn’t destroyed? That’s a win
yesterday was a bad day, and i didn’t get to read. was on a big hike, and those are already days where i read less because i’m tired. then about half-way to the destination, i got a migraine. that wasn’t fun.
today i’m still feeling the aftereffects, but am overall feeling better. mostly been reading やが君, and it’s progressing well. i’m really enjoying seeing Sayaka and Edamoto growing closer and sharing moments of their life ^^
August 24
(home post)
Super Mario Odyssey
Night Café 2 page 8 → 16 (9 pages)
Maybe this is me finally getting back to reading more than just the casual SMO? I decided on Night Café. If I read the first 3 chapters I’ll be caught up to the club, and then there is a break week, so I’ll have plenty of time to catch up with Orange and Loopers.
SMO managed to annoy me today. I’m pretty good at the normal game play but I’m just not very good at bosses and I got the first new part of the post game that includes a boss rush. I tried twice and died both times, so… I’ll turn on assist mode (because I just don’t enjoy too challenging game play nor redoing the same thing multiple times. I have better things to do with my life…) and finish that off. But today I just quit out of the game. Maybe I won’t play it again until I’m caught up with Loopers. Who knows?
I feel that. Social stuff can really take it out of me too. So yay! Nice win.
My new book order from japan arrived today. I couldn’t decide what to read so I just read a little bit from every book. The new books are ridiculously hard. maybe by reading them I will actually become good at japanese. Either way I will post a picture of the books tomorrow.
FROM DAY 37 TO DAY 54
I’m checking in—but to report my shame! I missed two days earlier this week (the first was by pure accident, but the second was just me being lazy ).
The good news is that I’ll be making it up for the first two days in September …though, if I’m being honest, reading enough 海辺のカフカ to keep up with the book club nearly requires me having to read everyday anyway haha.
I love this challenge, and I’m still pretty proud of how much I’ve read other than those two days!
Hope you guys have all been well! I’ll have to scroll through to see what you’ve all been up to.
August 20th-24th
What did I read?: 今日のさんぽんた Vol 1
How much did I read?: 16 pages - 12 pages - 12 pages - 8 pages - 21 pages
How long did it take me?: 12 min - 10 min - 11 min - 7 min - 21 min
Finally posting again It’s been a while, but I have been reading a little every day, and I finished this manga volume today ^^ The dry humor of the one-way “conversations” between Ponta and Rieko is amusing to me, but idk if I will continue the series - I would if it were free, but I’m not sure I feel strongly enough about it that I want to buy more volumes xD
Ponta xD He says all these contrary things with absolutely NO expression on his face and it kills me xD I feel like his mood is “wth are you doing ” like 24/7

Week 9 |
8月24日
Missed yesterday, way too tired when I came back and remembered I still didn’t read for the day so I let it slip.
Libero Revolution!! arrived today and, having discovered and downloaded the Bookmeter app since Saturday, I was able to try out its nifty barcode scanner to add them to my 積読 list (which is now back up to 123…). Aside from it refusing to scan vol 2 for whatever reason, it’s definitely a lot more convenient than typing out the ISBNs. I wish I’d known about the app before.
lol and now the top 3 people on my 相性 page are a 154% match, and the next 3 are also above 100%, with #7 being 100%. Okay, then. That’s totally how compatibility works.
I started 明日をくれた君に、光のラブレターを ch 2 秋色のラビリンス, reading 15 pages and leaving off on pg 77.
Oh ho ho! Midzuki goes to the library during lunch, which she’s never done before, and decides to check Kokoro to see if Satou-kun’s left a letter and try and narrow down when he leaves them. She reaches for the book, and who should she bump hands with but Sugiura Touma!
I guess the possibility that “Satou” could be an alias (it’s a common name + he’s absolutely certain she won’t find him? I ain’t discounting it) doesn’t occur to Midzuki, for her only concern is that Sugiura doesn’t discover the letter if there is one in the book. Well, he doesn’t seem to be Satou-kun, as the letter’s already in there and he was reaching for the book at the same time Midzuki was. He just tells her to shove the book in the back so no one else checks it out if she’s gonna use it for correspondence, which leaves her confused lol. She doesn’t have a very high opinion of him, considers him a delinquent, and is scared of him.
She’s glad that, of all people, it was lone-wolf Sugiura-kun to discover her exchange, but of course she’s still worried that it could happen again, so she asks Satou-kun if they could text instead. He doesn’t have a phone, and he wonders if it mightn’t be better for them to stop. She’s starting to have doubts herself, finding it unfair that she’s the only one who has to compromise, all of her suggestions having been summarily shut down.
Lost in thought pondering this, she gets startled by a library committee member organizing the shelf right next to her. She notices the name written on his indoor shoes—Satou! He’s the same 図書委員 from before whom she didn’t like, so unless he’s a different Satou-kun and it’s a huge coincidence that he works in the library, it seems my initial suspicion about him was correct! We also learn from the color on his shoes that he’s a third-year; I think Midzuki-tachi are second-years? Definitely younger than him though, since she doesn’t say 同じ三年, and she later corrects how she refers to this Satou in her head to 佐藤先輩 while she continues to refer to her exchange partner Satou as 佐藤くん because she doesn’t know yet that they are the same person.
Anyway, Midzuki doesn’t talk to him—her shyness overpowers that urge—and in her next letter, she doesn’t bring it up. But she has decided after all that she does want to continue exchanging letters. She hasn’t mentioned anything about a plan yet, so I imagine in the next section she’ll come up with one.
I also read ch 74-85 of HQ, finishing vol 9 and getting about halfway through vol 10. I’m happy we get to meet Fukuroudani in vol 10! I was thinking I’d have to wait until 11. Y’know, I dunno why I was expecting this joint training camp and Tsukki starting to become serious (since, esp with this volume being called 月の出, I’m pretty sure starting from here is where we get his backstory and the start of his character development) to be so much later. It is early s02 in the anime. Hm, but I think it was around when s03 was midway through airing that I started watching, so maybe that could be why? About halfway through what there is of the anime at the time is a lot further along than less than a quarter of the way through a 45-vol manga.
Anyway, I’ve really liked vol 10 so far.

I did that too once, and since it seemed like Amazon was gonna want me to pay to ship it back (uh, no), I just sold it to the nearest Half Price Books. Considering how relatively expensive some of the JP-language books there are, I was expecting to get more than I did, but oh well.
I don’t know what’s wrong with me lately but I get off work and have no energy left. 4 pages today and probably heading to bed early again. I feel somewhat bad not finishing the book club reading yet (it’s short this week) but I still have time left.
August 24 Home Post
I’m a whole mess lately reading-wise I’ve managed to do at least something every day at least, but sure not any of the book club things I’m in
and yet when I went to fit in a bit of reading I ended up looking through the Japan Foundation’s digital library thing since I got my info and accidentally started yet another book? I… am a nightmare
anyway it’s called 跡を消す and it’s about this guy who meets another guy that has a business cleaning up like death scenes?? Which was certainly an intriguing enough premise for me to try it and I actually really like it so far? It feels like a really good level for me right now, and something about the way it’s presented just kept me reading, idk. So… yay I read something, just not any of the things I’m supposed to
Ahh I’m late but thank you!! It was pretty temporary, no worries. That’s good to hear; I’ve been enjoying it whenever I’ve managed to actually pick it up lmao, so hopefully I can make some better progress soon!
It’s always nice to see a connection between these series:
からかい上手の高木さん 7
からかい上手の(元)高木さん 6
Today’s super menu item: 天丼 (tempura on rice):
There’s a lot of variety there, leading Superman to consider if this were a “Justice League丼”. Each ingredient is aligned with a member:
It’s all fun and games until you’re not certain which superhero your food relates to.
But a match is determined:
Don’t worry Batman. There’s another ingredient left for you to represent:
シャドーハウス Volume 1 (70% ➨ 77%)
orange Volume 1 (2% ➨ 4%)
Did you by any chance catch Covid recently without knowing it? It can do that to you…
Anyways, wishing you a speedy recovery!
August 24th and 25th:
Looks like I’m doing updates every other day now that we’re close to the end of the challenge. Yesterday I had work, so I only read an NHK news article. This morning I read 26 pages of 好きっていいなよ volume 2 - and finished it!! Wooo! I like this series, so I’m gonna jump into the third volume for the final week of the challenge.
I have lots of plans for what to read after (including Zero Escape and other games in my backlog) but I’m also due for a break, I think. I’m very low energy and feeling a bit eh in general right now. It’s been over two weeks since I moved and I still have no stove
The stove broke three weeks ago, and I’m not sure how long the repair shop expects me to eat with family/buy takeout.
Anyway, we’re still reading! We keep going!!
August 24
I read another 4 chapters of 青のフラッグ, finishing volume 6. That was a fast read… things are getting interesting. And only 2 volumes left. I also played バリバリ for about 40 mins and read some ビブリア (74% → 77%). Getting closer to my goals but there’s not too much time left.
ジョジョの奇妙な冒険26
130 - 167
I felt like I was going to fall sleep despite really wanting to finish the volume. I compromised by finishing the last Vanilla chapter.
Today’s reading will be a peak at Suzie Q and Roses!
I actually haven’t caught it yet despite it going through my area like wild fire a couple times so I have wondered if I’m the asymptomatic sort
(I am vaccinated) lf my only symptom is going to bed early and feeling drowzy I’d consider myself very lucky!
Oh no, I’ve felt the same lately… I tried to find an at home test to buy but couldn’t…
edit: smh because I decided to google how to get one in Japan, got the japanese word for it 抗原検査法 and of course now amazon has results when it didn’t for an english search -_-
I‘m vaccinated 3 times but still caught Omicron a bit more than 2 months after the last one
Absolutely! So no matter the cause, please take the rest that you need
Heh, wasn’t trying to suggest you couldn’t catch it when vaccinated, just clarifying that yes, I am. Which could contribute to low symptoms if I were to catch it.
Edit: and thank you for your concern <3
Oh yeah good point, I wasn’t really thinking about that, just wanted to provide a data point of a vaccinated and infected person, but I see that it could come across like that
Anyways I’m also seeing many mild cases in vaccinated people so I agree that this might be related.
