📚📚 Read every day challenge - Summer 2021 🏖🏖

Didn’t mention it in this thread, but I read volumes 9-15 of 放浪息子 over the weekend. It’s been more than two years ago that I first heard of that series (thanks to WK) and I’m really glad I read it.

Well, considering that I don’t frequent parts of the internet that produce memes, I’m unlikely to come across it except indirectly like now.
I’m just glad (? I guess) I don’t fall into the veteran weeb category.

氷菓、20 pages (156-175p), wasn’t paying attention to time, probably around 2 hours. Wasn’t using a dictionary (because lazy) and missed a few points but got the general idea pretty well. It helped that the same thing is discussed multiple times in different aspects.

Read 5 more pages after I posted yesterday, until I was very sleepily looking at my book, but it was enough to get me into another new chapter - hurray kid’s books with short chapters!

Good day today! Didn’t get started until after dinner, but got through 28 pages of my book - just under 20 left. Took about 1h 45 min, which was pretty good for me. Expecting to finish this week, even if work kills me and I’m reading slowly the rest of the week. Not sure what I’ll pick up next - hoping my Mandrake order arrives by the time I finish this book (and my Chi volume 3) so that I can open up some new paper books. Otherwise, I’ll have to look through my kindle library and see if something looks interesting and not super difficult.

Anyone else a book hoarder? I periodically wander through the free manga on Amazon and just get whatever looks interesting (based mostly on looking at the sample pages or googling the title to see if there’s info in English somewhere) - I have no idea if I will ever get around to reading most of them, I just like having books (and options). Funniest when there’s no English info available, so I just skim the sample pages and figure if I start reading it and it’s awful, I’ll just stop. I should probably try to read the descriptions, but it seems like a lot when I’m hunting through the large selection of free stuff.

We all need a ‘no studying day’ - mine is usually Thursday night when I have a standing video game night with my friends. Read something easy

Since the start of the challenge I’ve finished 3 of my LNs and have read ~800 pages which im pretty happy with. New work starts tomorrow so I’m back on the getting up at 4am grind lmao. Either way I think this thread probably did me good in getting me motivated to get one last burst of reading in before I get busy, so thanks!

I might be on the forums a bit less during the week, but nonetheless I’ll be cheering everyone on and ganbareing

Idk man speak for yourself, I completely disagree.

Day 6:
Satori Reader: Kiki-Mimi Radio, Episode 9.

I did some half an hour of googling and web surfing for some info about Final Fantasy XIV and I ended up playing like and hour and a half in Japanese as well, so we could say that this also counts but anyway, officially I only did Satori Reader.

Very nice day (and week) overall though. Since the beginning of the challenge I’m more focused and doing more than I used to every day, not only about reading but listening and grammar too. The challenge gave me (us) a nice momentum and I like coming to the post and reading everyone enjoying the challenge so far as well, dropping several likes here and there, and so on.

Keep it up friends.

Heya, joining all of you now! I’ve done two days already but didn’t post.

Now reading:
魔女の宅急便 (one or two pages a day)
からかい上手の高木さん (one chapter a week, with the book club)

I’m behind on Takagi-san at the moment, but I’ll catch up this week.
At present there’s 239/265 pages of Kiki left to read, and 207 days remaining in the year. So I’ll aim to finish Kiki by the year end… but that means I better pick up my pace!

Reversing the direction of the translation, Ornamental plants turns into the same 観葉植物 so I suspect it also uses reading. (and ornamental plants are 観賞植物), ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, unfortunately, I broke my 5-day streak yesterday, because I didn’t do any reading except for WK context sentences, which I don’t count, because they are not a part of text.
I hope, today would be better.

Yesterday (6th) was another busy day where free time was really sleepy time.

I did feel like reading some more 赤毛のアン before bed though, so I did. Probably 2/3rds through chapter 19, now.

June 7th very slowly read through page 10 of chapter 3 of からかい上手の高木さん, I started page 10 yesterday afternoon, but it took me my whole commute today to finish it. During work I was too busy to sneak a break to do more, and after work too exhausted. I’m just happy I still managed to make some progress!

:ballot_box_with_check: Day 7

Today I read aloud from ふしぎ駄菓子屋銭天堂 with my friend! We usually meet to chat, read and play games in Japanese every week. We read half of the クッキングツリー chapter of book one. For a children’s book I can’t believe how real the topics are, such as kids that are raised in an abusive and neglectful house. We’ll find out next week if the Mother destroys the cooking tree or not… And given how violent she is I don’t have a lot of hope.

First week down! :durtle_love: Excited for the next.
