📚📚 Read every day challenge - Summer 2021 🏖🏖

I read around 20 pages ふらいんぐうぃっち manga today. I didn’t look up any words I didn’t know, thus there were some sentences I didn’t understand but I don’t really care.

Sum up! - Summer Reading Challenge 2021

Day 4 - June 4th
今日の読書: からかい上手の高木さん.
ページ: 10.

Finished chapter 3 and moved to 4. I planned to read more, but grammar and vocabulary were hitting me hard today, so I’ve just done 10 pages. Small progress is still progress (ᵔ.ᵔ)

June 4
・Read 2% of Honzuki 4. (70% → 72%)

Reading while taking bus is hard. I must have reread the same sentences 5 times and still not remember what I’d just read. Something about star festival and fruits and water balloons. Was busy day today, cleaning and moving out. More cleaning tomorrow. Hopefully Sunday will be chill.

4.6.
Today I read a bit of すべてがFになる and about a third of 赤毛のアン chapter 19.

I think I’ve made it a goal to read anything not book club related, since that’s what made me read 赤毛のアン instead of sleep already.

Ooo I want to join! I love reading Japanese. I try to read about 30 pages of manga each week day, which has been a good pace for me. My goal this year is 12 books (where mangas count as 0.5 book).

I’m starting a bit late, I only read starting on Tuesday, since Monday was a holiday. But ah well. Happy to be part of the group.

Silly question but how did you get that format with the squares and dates???

Day 4
氷菓, 6 pages (142-147), 25 min.

Didn’t look up any words. Had maybe 20 unknown vocab but just guessed from context or skipped because I had no time for looking up today. Understood everything fine, just may have missed some nuance.

HI BURNANNATOR Long time no talk!

I quoted it from Toyger’s message at the top, and then had to manually add in the little boxes by doing [ and then ]

Summary

June 4 Um…so one of my goals was not to read anything new until I worked through the things I’ve started. And then my boyfriend sent me this article
https://www.fanbyte.com/trending/boys-run-the-riot-is-a-manga-by-and-for-trans-men/

about the manga ボーイズ・ ラン・ザ・ ライオット …and I couldn’t help myself. So I’m now 1 chapter (73 pages) in and so far I’m in love. But also it’s more than I normally would read in japanese (I was just enjoying it too much to stop) so now I’m very exhausted!

Reading:

Satori Reader, At least 5 books this year, NHK Easy

This Week, so far so good, went to a bookstore that was literally on top of the Japanese market I love going to. I felt like so happy to find the novelization of the Coco Pokemon Movie. I also bought a Star Wars book about Poe Dameron and Pokemon Sun and Moon Manga.

I’ll deep read the Koko and Star Wars and the manga I’ll be casually. Manga counts as 0.5 a book.

This thread seems both intimidating and inspiring.

A little while back I found a free newsletter from Reddit and I signed up, and the person who runs it sends an excerpt from Japanese literature every day. Recently they switched to every weekday instead of seven days a week, but I’ve been putting off reading them for a while. I think that’s a good place to start, and then I’ll go for an NHK News Easy article on weekends. My experience with reading Japanese has been mostly frustrating and quite tiring so it’s amazing to see so many people here that are such avid readers but that’s why I signed up in the first place so let’s do it!

I think most people go through the same early on. But keep pushing yourself to read, look up grammar you don’t know, learn some vocabulary words along the way, and it will get easier before you know it. It may take weeks, months, or years depending on the person, but there will be progress!

I think what you don’t see is that a lot of those “avid readers” were once some of the worst readers out there. I used to literally get headaches if I read yotsubato for longer than 20 minutes. Give it your best every day and you’ll be surprised to see how far you’ve come when you look back one day.

Adding on to Vanilla–I used to fall asleep whenever I read literally anything in Japanese. (Still do on tough days )

It definitely gets easier over time! You got this!

Day 4:
Satori Reader: Kiki-Mimi Radio, Episode 7.

I keep reading late in the night when I’m sleepy D: I have to start reading earlier. Doing alrightish so far, I read two episodes yesterday and the other day (I changed referring to them as chapters in favour of episode, because chapter sounds like I’m reading a few pages everyday, and in reality Satori Reader is divided in article-like episodes that don’t take long to read), but one is alright for today. I’m satisfied for now; might push up a bit when the next intermediate book club starts.

I ended up reading 120 pages yesterday because it was good drama and hard to stop.
I just finished the remaining 30 pages and will move on to 放浪息子 for today.

Overall I do enjoy the book (and the series in general). I just wonder why the author felt the need to include weird things as well.

Weird stuff

Nope, turns out that it was all for the lulz. Eh. Moving on.

Day 4: June 4th
What did I read?: よつばと! Vol. 15
How much did I read?: 1 chapter (38 pages)
How long did it take me?: 36 min (did I actually use a timer this time, yes)

A new week, a new Yotsuba chapter to read~ :sparkles: Four day streak! This makes me feel like I’m finally keeping up with a book club again, instead of constantly lagging behind and periodically binging to catch up. It’s a good feeling :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: It’s been a while since I’ve been able to break out of that binge-lag cycle - hopefully I can keep it going :muscle:

My Home Post

For Day 4, my novel reading went from the 11% mark to the 13% mark. Looks like I’m keeping a consistent 2% increase.

Today’s manga reading: よつばと! Volume 15 Chapter 102

Not much else to say for today. No sentences in my book reading were T1 (meaning only one unknown word), so no Anki cards created today. I look forward to the day when I know enough words that I’m able to sentence mine 1T sentences from what I read.
