Words of the day
  • にんまり. = (on-mim) with a smile of satisfaction
  • ボコる. = to be the hell out of. Maybe ボコボコ.
  • 癇かんに障さわる = to irritate = 気きに障さわる. The Kanji is used in 癲癇てんかん (though doesn’t use Kanji in context). Not 癪しゃく (why are Kanji’s so thick, anyway).
  • 眼がんを付つける = to fasten one’s eyes on (a person)
  • 糸いとを引ひく = to pull wires (of a puppet). Also, to retain effects, not necessarily wire-pulling.
  • 天日干てんぴぼし = sun-drying
  • ホン. = Phon - Wikipedia (unit of loudness)
  • ヘボ. = clumsy hand; greenhorn. Somewhat like 下手へた.
  • 色香いろか = charm. Like 色気いろけ.
  • 懇切丁寧こんせつていねい = thoughtful and scrupulous. The 懇切こんせつ part is already 細こまやかな心遣こころづかい.
  • 若輩者じゃくはいもの = inexperienced, greenhorn person. 不束者ふつつかもの is more on incompetent side.
  • 弱冠じゃっかん = early age; youth. Can also just mean 20 years old. Sounds like 若干じゃっかん, but with a crown (and the latter isn’t even young).
  • 専門外せんもんがい = outside one’s area of expertise
  • 提唱ていしょう = advocacy; proposal
  • 量子りょうし = quantum. That quantization theory and associated particles.
  • 相対性理論そうたいせいりろん = theory of relativity. Also just 相対論そうたいろん. The first two Kanji is usually read 相対あいたい (with a different meaning).
  • 中性子ちゅうせいし = neutron. 中性子星ちゅうせいしせい is neutron star.
  • 素粒子そりゅうし = elementary particle. Anti-particle is 反粒子はんりゅうし.
  • 単位たんい = university credits
