oh! um just google europe timezone ha ha

The entirety of europe doesn’t share a single timezone though(nor does any other continent, for that matter)

Most likely CET  actually judging by the 10PM Japan time, and considering Japan has only 1 time zone

FYI, there is a thing in Discourse via the calendar icon to have the date/time dynamically change based on the user’s timezone. For example: 2019-07-16T21:00:00Z

That’d be helpful  maybe the first post can be edited to reflect this

Just read this first weeks reading. It took longer than I was expecting, there’s just so much unknown vocab here. But I think I can perservere and hopefully it will get easier as I go. I don’t have a whole lot to say about the story as someone who’s seen the anime. That does really help with the comprehension though

Sorry for bumping up an old thread, but this is my first book after a reading a lot of short articles and some manga. Vocab’s my biggest stumbling point with this. For example, I found 56 new words in part 2 alone, so I only have a foggy idea of what’s going on. I’m having trouble telling whether this is just what Kouichi calls first page syndrome or if this will be a persistent problem. Would it be a smarter decision to drop this book for now? Someone here categorized this book as advanced - would the material in the intermediate book club be easier to manage?

Koichi might call it First Page Syndrome, but I would call it First Book Syndrome, haha :skull_and_crossbones:

It’s probably not the easiest book to start with . But if you are enjoying it, go for it!

Vocab in this book is notably more difficult and diverse than in the intermediate clubs books. It was probably my 12th book, and I think I encountered well over 500 new words in the book, still.

I think I learned 1400 words from my first book. 'Twas for kids :disappointed:

I’m finally reading this book! :eyes: :sparkles: After all these years the book club has been running, and then done before I could start.

It’s going better than expected so far, I’m not completely lost  That’s a win :sunglasses:

We’re just not doing the weekly threads anymore, we’re still reading on! All on different volumes though. :joy:

I’m looking forward to your comments!

lol Re:Zero.
Volume 1 was the 14th book I read. And all my previous books apart from the very first were full-on light-novels or novels. But Re:Zero was by far the hardest book. Its like the author went out of his way to find weird words haha.

I’m on my 17th book right now and reading Kanae Minato’s Nのために and it’s a breeze compared to this.

btw I also read 無職転生 which is also isekai and very similar in theme to Re:Zero but it was much easier… so strange.

Re Zero is the real test for Japanese learners.

It has been a long time since we started the book club, hasn’t it now.

It absolutely has! Two years already…
Life has been getting in the way of me reading almost at all, sadly, so I’m kinda leaving a lot of things unread, such as this series
