Quotation breakdown, please?

Hello, could anyone please help me with this one?

『身を浅く思ひ、世を深く思ふ』

It’s a quote by Miyamoto Musashi (宮本武蔵), from the Dokkodo (獨行道). It’s often translated to “Think lightly of yourself and deeply of the world”. The parts I have difficulty with are “思ひ” and “思ふ”. How should I pronounce it and what is the role of ひ and ふ in the sentence? Is this some way of counting?
I appreciate your help!

In modern spelling those would be 思い and 思う. You would pronounce them that way when reading it, since the difference is just spelling.

Leebo is right there.

You might notice this as well if you look at the lyrics of Ringo Shiina and Tokyo Jihen because she’s fond of writing out her lyrics in this way.

You might also come across きょ and similar written out as きよ in texts with this style.
