I am trying to say “Suzuki likes coffee more than Calderon likes it” and came up with:
鈴木さんはカルデロンよりコーヒーが好き
The translator does give my message but also gives “Suzuki prefers coffee to Calderon” which doesn’t make sense, and wanted to know if my translation was correct.
Purely grammatically it could be either, but context will clarify which it is.
A more directly analogous translation would be something like “Suzuki likes coffee more than Calderon” which is grammatically ambiguous in the same way, but unless given some context that this is about how Suzuki likes coffee and doesn’t really like Calderon, it’s pretty much implied that Calderon doesn’t like coffee as much as Suzuki does.
