Pronounciation of 質問

Ok, so is it just me or does it sound more like “hitsumon”?

Does this go for all words that start with し or しつ?

If you’re not having an issue with the playback of the audio, perhaps it’s just the fact that the consonant sound in し is not the same as either “sh” or “h” in English pronunciation. It is classified by linguists as a “Voiceless alveolo-palatal fricative” and it doesn’t exist in English. “Sh” is a “Voiceless postalveolar fricative,” so basically, making a sound in a different part of the mouth.

It could be that. It sounds like you need to pronounce the shh sound in the back of your mouth with your tongue near the roof of your mouth instead of near the front.
