One other thing I meant to point out this week. We finally understand why the drawings of shoes have been so intricate so far. It was for this moment of deduction based on the state of his shoes!

I read over chapter 57 last week; this week I had to read over most of the rest of the first half of the volume as I’d completely forgotten a couple of key points (like オッさん knowing their house and escape date etc).

Happy new year everyone! We are treated to one of my favourite chapter cover illustrations so far!
Chapter 59
Got to love a secret room. And that is an awesome set of fantasy weapons on display. Love the pistol with the four barrels. Favourite panel of the week was the thought bubble with Emma firing the rocket launcher.,
Chapter 60
Got to love a map! I felt like this week we suddenly have much more information on the layout of the world, including how the A,B,C and D zones relate to each other, and where they are in relation to Gracefield House.
In terms of the numerical coordinates, I’m guessing that the first number gives the coordinate on the y axis on the map, as a positive number in the direction away from Gracefield House. So A08 is 8 zones north of Gracefield House, and B06 is 6 zones south of Gracefield House. And then the second coordinate gives the distance away from Gracefield House on the x axis. For A and B areas, in both this is how far east of Gracefield House they are - with A08-63 about twice as far east as B06-32.
Chapter 61 - end of another volume. Quite a different feel to previous volumes, hope you all enjoyed. Onto the next volume next week.
Chapter thoughts: Fun chapter and a great cliffhanger. Loved this week’s monsters! Slightly confusing scene where Emma appeared have her head bitten off but she’s ok! At least for a few minutes more…

Emma getting her head bitten off but not really confused me too. I guess it was like a premonition of death that she had.
I wonder if the story is going to try to redeem this older character. It seems like it would be tough with all the attempted manslaughter he’s doing, but if Vegeta did it, I guess anyone can.

I think おじ doesn’t particularly want to kill them. As Emma noticed, he deliberately missed with the gun. He seems ok with letting them die. I think his biggest issue is he’s severely traumatized from losing his friends all those years ago and being left alone, so doesn’t want to get close to people. So yes, I think he’ll be redeemed.
I may have gone on to accidentally read the whole of volume 8 today, and have started volume 9. (In terms of comment above, it was written prior to doing that!)
Umm also finished volume 9 yesterday.

I think you’re right. Him not directly killing people is the story’s out to allow him to be redeemed. Even though siccing man-eaters on the kids is basically attempted murder

But he intentionally didn’t kill the demon, and also didn’t tell them it wasn’t dead. Knowing it would call it’s friends. That’s pretty much siccing man-eaters on them, imo.

On page 185, he just says that they won’t die from damage on that level, not that they are unkillable.
あんな簡単に"人喰い"は死なねぇ
And on page 187, he says he intentionally didn’t kill it.
わざと殺さずあえて黙ってたいやがらせ
Of course, one could argue inviting mortal danger on that level goes a bit beyond 嫌がらせ
