When I press “F” I often have to wait a few seconds, maybe up to 5 til details load.
Instead the wanikani app/web should just preload the descriptions/details for next 5 kanjis or so, so pressing “F” would always be instant. This isn’t the case and it loads only on request.
It should be possible to implement this probably via one shot request of Opus4.8 or equivalent. Its not a complex feature.
Not everyone has a fast internet and currently it breaks the flow.
Does it really not load at all before you press f? How do you know? I always thought it tried to load it with the page. Pressing f is always instant for me, unless I’m trying to do reviews on my phone in the middle of nowhere and having issues with loading the pages in general
It loads with gigalag, not instant. Next kanjis in row load instant
Just curious but what is your available bandwith / connection? It even worked for in Germany in a 100 Person village with a mobile 2G Connection which was already really really slow and it was not as bad as you described?
idk, I run vpn due to being hotels in airbnbs, but I can stream spotify and youtube 480p quite well usually, maybe its multiple streams that are negatively affected. I don’t think 3KB json files would take a lot of strain, since its clear when you press “J” you hear the voice instantly, so voice was preloaded, but the description, which is literally just text for some reason takes ages to load. Its such an eay thing to fix!
Yeah I think it should be implemented as maybe a pre-load or something similar. You can tell sometimes by looking in the network tab and seeing if a request is made when you click the button. I have extremely fast speeds for my region 1G download and i see this sometimes.
It might not even be an issue with wani kani but latency especially over a vpn. Or even how the DNS works inside the vpn.
