Please help me learn how to use this

I’m new here and all I could do was like take a quiz on the radicals but I want to do more right now, I just don’t know how! Like how do I start learning and getting quizzed on the actual kanji???

They’ll unlock as you level up the radicals. Just do your reviews and more lessons will appear eventually.

If you want to do more, look into basic grammar for instance! There are a lot of resources on these forums.

Check out the FAQs

You have to get the radicals to guru level before unlocking the kanji. And then when you guru the kanji, you unlock vocab. It starts off slow but speeds up quickly, and sooner than later you’ll have a ton to do. If its a bit slow at first, I recommend using that time to get a head start with grammar using Bunpro

As Fishing said, it speeds up quickly. I used to think I would do 15 lessons a day. I struggle just to do all of my reviews in a timely manner, let alone complete additional lessons.

I also recommend taking the time to visit grammar, too. I’m personally unfamiliar with Bunpro, but I’ve been using Genki 3rd edition as my primary grammar resource. Whatever your choice of grammar knowledge, whether that be Genki, Bunpro, or something else, I’d recommend spending as much time on that as you do on WaniKani. WaniKani is an amazing resource for learning kanji and vocabulary, but it doesn’t teach grammar, and you won’t get far if you don’t know how to use what you learn here.

100% agree, I vouch for Genki as well. But any grammar alongside Wankani is a great combo. I was using Genki 3rd edition as well but I procrastinated it so much just bc I hated doing the exercises (although to be fair, they are probably really helpful, just wasn’t my thing). Now I just use Genki for the textbook lessons, and use the Genki grammar deck on bunpro alongside it for reviewing what I learn on Genki. Really been enjoying that structure, they work great together. Bunpro gives you a 30 day trial so I recommend everyone check it out

Thank you all so much, but the problem is that it’s been 24 hours and like I still can’t do anything besides review. There’s no lessons for me it says I’ve finished all for today… but i haven’t even done any today :sob: you said it speeds up quickly so is there actually a problem with my thing or like do I just need to be patient

Just be patient. Trust.

New kanji won’t unlock until you reach the guru stage for the corresponding radical, and the vocabulary won’t unlock until you reach the guru stage for the relevant kanji. Check the stage that you are at for your radicals. Let’s use the mouth radical as a test. Click on it and find your progress bar. If it is at the guru stage or above and you have not unlocked the mouth kanji, there is an issue. If it is at apprentice, there is no issue.

How Do I Get More Lessons? | WaniKani Knowledge

Oh, it gets worse :smiling_face_with_tear:

I just realized I’m at the peak lol

That would explain a lot

I personally haven’t used either, no outside resources till now, wanted to use tae kim’s book but didn’t. Any suggestions for which i can start with first? If grammar is almost foreign concept to me? I searched up few PDF’s, were too theoretical with no visual help at all!

I‘ve only ever tried the Genki textbooks and the Sensei app. Genki uses pictures and has accompanying apps for flashcards and voiced exercises. There’s also a workbook with practice exercises. Sensei is 100% free and honestly probably faster, but it expects you to do a lot more heavy lifting than Genki. The Sensei app also has a little rating system that allows you to self evaluate your understanding and revisit. I personally like Genki more because it’s a little easier, although probably not as effective. PDFs are available for Genki, btw.

I’ll give Genki PDF’s & Sensei a try. Thanks
