Outside the learning zone - 96% correct reviews

Err….how come doing well is, not doing well? (Level 52 presently) I had rocky day yesterday (87%) correct. Usually I review twice a day at least but taking it easy after my JLPT test on Sunday so just once a day.

Should I try and fluff some going forwards to please Wanikani?

It was mentioned a few times before, but it is intentional. If you are below 85% (I believe), then it means you have too much load and cannot properly memorize kanji/vocab. If you are over 95%, it means that you are sort of ‘slacking’ and do not pick enough items.
Personally I would say to ignore the angry face and go with whatever speed you want.

Yeah it’s a bit silly given that WaniKani doesn’t give you the tools to “fix” that (increasing intervals etc.). It’s also kind of meaningless for a daily average anyway, this should be calculated based on long term averages.

You should ignore it.

Mine have looked like this for a while. I find it amusing, personally :joy: it did make me feel like I could probably up my speed a bit without having major issues, so that’s good. I’m doing an extra batch of lessons each day now that I wasn’t before. But if I go much faster, then I’ll have more days where I have no new lessons to do, which will be harmful for my habits. So, I think I have found the best balance for me.

Now I look at this as more of an encouraging symbol that I have a good retention rate :face_with_hand_over_mouth: it works out because I don’t feel compelled to get 100% all the time since 100% is not rewarded, but also I can see that I’m doing better than it expects, and I feel good about that… I don’t feel punished when I make a mistake, instead I feel like “well, maybe it’ll be a little happier with me today :joy:” and keep going.

It’s interesting, multiple people really dislike that too high of a percentage is considered a bad thing, but I’ve found it to be a great balance where it encourages me that I’m doing well and prevents me from getting locked into a perfectionist mindset. I hope they can adjust it in such a way that more folks have the experience with it that I am having!

Oh I will keep at マイペース  I know what my capacity as a learner is, I just found it curious but your explanation makes sense. I’ve done about 5 months of fairly high intensity revisions so I wanted to just a break for a couple of weeks to try and cement my learning without adding lots of new stuff.

Yeah I will do, I just found it odd as I don’t think I had seen it before. I’ll carry on as always, I’ve been at this long enough now to know what works for my learning style. Go at a pace that suits me backed up with lots of reading outside of Wanikani to bolster my “burning” of knowledge.

Yeah it’s strange, I know where I’m at with my study, just taking a breather, letting new knowledge settle down before the final push towards level 60, especially as I’m now heading towards the generally less common stuff at level 52 and beyond. I need to make sure I am solidifying my knowledge with lots of reading outside of Wanikani, as well as learning other vocab using the kanji I have learned. I’ve been at this long enough now to know マイペース
