To finger someone is to accuse them of a crime, especially when it concerns reporting them to an authority figure. You could try picturing yourself pointing your finger at a burglar and calling the cops. I can’t possibly imagine anything else you’d picture when thinking of this. Nope. No way.

There is also just the fact that it means to touch something. I have most certainly encountered it used innocuously numerous times in my life in novels and such.
“He fingered the drapes,” is obviously nothing untoward.
