The winner is ひらやすみ! As the nominator, are you ok to run it @jablekanji ?
Huzzah! I held off on reading the first volume just in case it won this time.
Admittedly, I’ve been a bit absent from the forums as of late as I’ve been traveling a good deal for work. If people don’t mind a bit of inconsistency with the posting schedule I can probably run it! More than happy to relinquish though if someone else would like to take it over. Regardless though I’m really excited to be reading this one with everyone!
Does “inconsistency” mean “sometimes you’ll be a day late” or “sometimes you’ll skip a week”? The first one would be fine, but the second one would upset the schedule of the next book…
I imagine I wouldn’t be more than 2 days early or late. Maybe I can just prep all the posts ahead of time and it’ll be easy then
I usually copy and paste my thread from week to week after the initial one, so it’s not much work. And yes posting early if you’ll be away, or warning people the post might be late so you don’t get panic in the forum.
Another option is some people post it early, and then people follow the links on the day.
Let’s do it - will be a good excuse for me to get a bit more active and catch up on CCS and yama no susume clubs anyway haha
Home thread is up!!
Go vote in the polls!! Set the thread to watching!! Get excited for the chillest most relaxed slice of life book club of all time!!!
So excited to join the book club starting with Hirayasumi!

Personal Opinion
Written by the same artist who made Fullmetal Alchemist and an anime coming in early 2026 makes this the perfect timing to pick this up. Expecting great characters, a deep world and several plot twists.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Upcoming anime (hype)
- Interesting world building
- Furigana
Cons
- Might contain a lot of world specific vocabulary and technical jargon
- Ongoing, so in case of an offshoot likely to catch up at some point
Pictures
Ahh, nice!
One of the cons is that it’s an ongoing series, so eventually you’ll have to wait for the next volume…
I recommend do not read any previews and going blind with this one. Overall it’s similar in spirit with HagaRen, but easier (level 25 is about right).
空っぽの少女と虹のかけら // The Empty Girl and the Rainbow Fragment
Natively: Level 23
Full furigana: Yes
Summary
Poyoko, a girl unwanted by anyone, followed a mysterious voice into another world where strange creatures live. There, wandering, she encountered a boy wearing a peculiar mask… Thus began their dark fairy tale, as they sought the fragments of a rainbow.

Personal Opinion
If you liked ロジカとラッカセイ, this was written by the same author! To paraphrase Legato’s Natively review: “If ロジカとラッカセイ is Adventure Time, then からっぽの少女と虹のかけら is Alice in Wonderland.” Some side characters speak in Kansai dialect. The first time I tried reading a manga with Kansai dialect, it was the main character speaking it, and that was way too hard. I think this is a much easier introduction.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Familiar author! Familiar art style! (For some)
- Alice in Wonderland, apparently
- Into to Kansai dialect
Cons
- If you go in comparing it to ロジカとラッカセイ you’ll probably be disappointed

Seeing this here makes me happy. Please watch over Poyoko, everyone ![]()
I think I’d even be tempted to re-read it. (I’m Legato on Natively.)
Definitely.
I did a bit of tidying in the OP while I had a few minutes. Could someone update the thread title please.
By the way if anyone is interested in reading in Spanish - the Spanish fiction club will be thinking about its next book soon over on Natively.
Hello all!
If you are wondering what it is like to read slightly harder books, or at a slightly faster pace, why not try out the Intermediate book club for a change?
And guess what, we are currently voting for our next pick ![]()
Happy to see you there!

Personal Opinion
Same mangaka who made ひとりぼっちの〇〇生活 and that’s all I need to know. They also made 三ツ星カラーズ, which I haven’t read but was also a WaniKani book club.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- The mangaka has a good track record
Cons
- Nothing I can think of
